There are times when I'm such a numpty

I'm terrible with accents. I can recognise most accents under most circumstances, but not when I expect them to be something else. There was one guy I'd been listening to at my trade union conference for a couple of years, but didn't realise he spoke with a Scottish accent because he was a delegate for Manchester. Or listening to a famous Welsh actress in a role on TV and thinking she was appalling at an Irish accent because I'd got the idea her character was Irish.

And yep - I was teased at school for mispronunciations.

My problem with accents is that I pick them up all to easily, if I'm with someone with a pronounced accent, I'll start speaking the same and they think I'm doing it on purpose to make fun of them.

The other thing I have is dyslexic hearing, I hoestly thought for years that highway men said Stand on your Liver, instead of Stand and Deliver. I was convinced that Fat Boy Slim, was singing about the Vauxhall Brothers instead of the Funk Soul Brothers.

The dyslexic hearing I understand and I know everybody mishears things, I had a elderly aunt who used to like to go a cafe and have a toasted beagle (bagel) wth butter than came in a rammadan (ramekin) dish! But some of the other stuff, I'm really shocked at my own ignorance and gullability, why did it never occur to me that actors routinely wore wigs?

It was while before I worked that out, too. When i was in my fifties, I accidentally saw an actress waiting to start shooting and she was wearing a skullcap. When the wig arrived, she slipped it on. I had no idea what they wore under wigs!

It's not just your own family, it's your partners too, it worse than xmas lol

Oh crikey - the interferers - The worst thing in my view when it comes to wedding planning ... 'Auntie Sue thinks you should invite cousin Matthew' ... 'You should think about getting married X place, or X time, or how about having your reception at X place' ..  You should serve this for the meal , etc etc etc

Introvert, yes, and stuck in my ways. But I've spent my lifetime worrying what others think of what I do. My marriage was made easier because it was a Baptist church, where all the CofE/Catholic big wedding style wasn't done as much. Also, being in debt always worried me more.

I don't, I think many of us worry intensely about what others think of our choices. Weddings feel being on a runaway train, everybody else has ideas about what and where, the bride and groom can feel periferal to the whole thing as families take over.

Do you think this all might be an autistic thing - More introvert, stuck in our ways, not worrying about what others think of our choices

I certainly won't be queuing (is that the right spelling?) up to tell you that you're wrong. After my divorce, I had two other long-term partners that I lived with and didn't marry. Like you, I couldn't see the point.

I just had a normal dress, then we went to the pie shop down the road, it was a posh pie shop, but still a pie shop. I refused to have photo's, probably just as well as it was chucking it down with rain, then we went home. It was all a bit of an anti-climax if I'm honest, not something I'd ever want to do again, I really can't see the point of it, (queue, people lining up to tell me I'm wrong). I dont' think I've got that showing off gene?

My husband and I bought decent suits to get married in. Our families provided the photographs, cake and catering (it wasn't many people), plus two weeks in the Lake District as a honeymoon. That wasn't costly as it was the winter!

The idea of getting married still gives me the colleywobbles, I'd hate it. £20k and the rest, you could put down a deposit on a decent house for the cost of a lot of weddings.
