Hate and unconstitutional thinking taking over

I know, nobody wants to talk about politics and that‘s not what I‘m here to do.
There was a pretty defining vote in one of the Bundesländer of Germany and the results are… Well, today I am ashamed to be German.

I do not get why people vote for a party that is officially deemed "right-wing extremist“ and wants to destroy the pillars of democracy for personal profits and ideologies.
Sorry to dampen the mood, but as someone that needs the world to stay open minded, I worry. I cried this morning and I fear for the future. My sense of justice screams for me to get away while I am to start my six years of university soon. The future seems to be a Germany where I do not want to live and right now I honestly do not know what to do.

How do you deal with the world getting more hateful and narrow-minded? What helps you to see things in perspective (preferably a perspective that doesn‘t make me weep)?

  • I think that while Reform were very fringe they could get away with promising the moon on a stick, but once they became a serious threat the media, very belatedly, started asking them serious questions and expecting reasoned replies, like they would with any real political party (Reform is a private company rather than a conventionally organised party). They seldom got or get reasoned replies, or any indication of the existence of any rational set of real-world policies. Some parts of the media also did a little digging and came up with all the serious financial criminality that is now common knowledge..
