Let's talk about cow's milk [NSFW]

I probably shoudn't post this, but it bothers me.

I love cream. If I buy an apple turnover, it must have cream.

The thing is, we are born into a world where drinking the lactate from a cow is acceptable. Who on Earth thought to drink it in the first place? A litre gives me 33g of protein a day. I try not to think about the pus in my milk.

[removed by mod rule 4]

I'm actually inclined to go vegetarian or vegan.

[removed by mod]  So much is going on that we can't see.

The meat industry is macabre.

I hope you don't report this, as those horses need a voice. This is their voice and it's unacceptable.

Formo is a start up company that have found a way to make actual milk protein without subjecting any cows to a life of torture. I would gladly switch to their product.

Back on topic, do you drink cow's milk?

I love it, but I want the cows treated well. The farmers are paid pennies and the supermarkets force them to abuse the animals for profit. The farmers should be well paid and the animals should be able to roam daily.  Milk is too cheap. It has to stop.

EDIT: I left out the exclamation marks for you profdanger. You're welcome.

this post has been edited in line with rule 4.  Content may be distressing to others.

  • I sas always a bit icked oht by milk as a small  kid, but not realy as much as egss, especially fried, eggs did.

At one time the only alternstive to cow's milk was soya milk, but that tasted horrible, didn't work with coffee, though in fact it seems to go well with chocolate.

I would not get too strict about it, but these new plant milks that are so ubiquitous now: roast almond milk as kiyt milk is delicious, wbilst creamy oat milk is delicious in coffee!

  • Not sure inuj would out cameras up but I mean a secret inspection?

I remember when a trainer at Bobby roberts circus was caught abusing Annie the elephant he ran away but think he got caught but the public turned on Bobby and I don't know weather or not to believe Bobby that he didn't know it was happening but the UK government eventually banned use of exotic animals in shows

The only circus I know of that still has animals at all is circus mondao but Petra treats the horses so well and malkes sure anywhere they go the horses have a big field area set up

I was shocked once though I saw a video. Of people upset about horses in the circus and they crashed the show screaming and shouting tge poor horses looked scared and ready to run which would of caused the animals and the public harm

  • There are two other videos I wanted to share with you regarding animal abuse in farms that burnt a hole in my mind, but the post will be immediately reported because it's a upsetting (rule 4).

    It would be found offensive.

Fortunately the guy was secretly filmed and arrested for injuring dairy cows for fun.

It all needs exposure. There needs to be live cams in every farm so we can see whats going on and report anything off. It should be a legal requirement.

If you saw the videos, you would agree.

It should also apply to kosher and halal animals.

Maybe an online petition would start the ball rolilng? Together we have power.

  • This is a good way to look at it... I don't like it when people try force views on others

That said as someone who does consume dairy and meat... A lot needs to be changed in farming I can't see milking machines being good for the cows hand milking seems much safer but of couse that's down to the fact they want to milk lots of cows at once for huge coperate diarys and I don't see why the farmers. Even do this because they do all that work for little reward anyway

I don't think free range farming is what people think it is. Either at least not when it comes to. the big companies

    • I think one day we will find a way to. Produce artificial flavourings that are. Super. Safe to. Consume and source the protein elsewhere and I would be fine with this in fact it would mean we could. Have a vegan friendly fried chicken and also. It would be boneless and heal it here than the reformed stuff is anyway
  • I will always wonder what you typed there

It related, at least in part (from my poor memory), to the article that I’ve since posted about, above.

  • I will always wonder what you typed thereThinking

  • My OP got chopped and cooked by the mods. Definitely time to sleep! I don't like that we can't talk about animal cruelty as it might 'upset people'. Not here I guess.

Everyone really needs to know. I want to expose them. You can't just be nice to cats and dogs and torture the other animals.

When i find a platform, I'm going to make a dent. When it comes to animal welfare, I get triggered.

  • If anyone would like to read more about how "a hormone that's commonly used to enhance reproduction of pigs, dairy cows, sheep, beef cows, and goats" is sourced from horses, this article covers it.

It's from Animals, an "international, peer-reviewed, open access journal devoted entirely to animals, including zoology and veterinary sciences".

WARNING - written content might cause distress, but there are no images. I won't link to it, but it can be found by searching online for:

  • I agree with you. If something bad is happening, for example to the horses, how can people become aware and try to help stop it, if they are protected from knowing about it? If something bad is happening, people SHOULD be distressed by it. If people hide it or pretend it is not happening for their own comfort, it is still happening. Why does it matter if people are distressed but not if horses are distressed or experiencing great suffering? Humans cause a lot of damage to other humans and the planet and all the other living things of the planet, but animals are innocent and deserve to be protected.

  • What I said about what's happening to those horses was deleted by mods. 'this post has been edited in line with rule 4.  Content may be distressing to others.' OMG! It's supposed to be distressing!

You've literally stopped their voice. I know you're just following rules. So that's it then? What's happening to those horses will continue and any attempt to expose it will be deleted. Jesus.

I'm sorry, but, no. If you can't expose animal cruelty as it might 'upset people' then the atrocities will continue. Nice!

I don't think exposing animal cruelty should be deleted. It should be an exemption.

  • I think mo Gilligan put it best talking about chicken farming ita ok to consume animal produce but we should also advocate for better farming

Ive never understood people who day you must be vegan or full on meat eater it's ok to have a flexi diet but want better farming

  • I became a vegetarian when I was 5, and I met some cows in a field who came over to say hello and licked my hands and face with their rough tongues, and then I understood, for the first time what meat was and did not eat it again.

I have always loved dairy products, cold rice pudding and cold custard were my favorite foods as a child. As an adult I lived on hot milky drinks.

Actually I didn't think I could survive without milk in tea!

But then when I was 34 I moved to the countryside, and I met the cows again, and I met the fields of young calves, separated from their mothers when they were too small to know where to put their tiny bodies in the world. Standing, staring. Frail wobbly legs. Lost.  I met the barns crammed full of tiny calves, caked in their own waste, bones jutting out, while their mothers staggered with swollen udders in the fields waiting to be milked for us.

I lay in bed long nights listening to the distressed calls of the mothers who had been separated from their calves.

I felt shame and guilt whenever I walked past a field with young calves in, who didn't know what it was to wander in pasture with their mothers by their side, drinking the food which had always been meant for them.

So I stopped eating dairy and I've never missed it actually. I am happy with oat milk, soya milk and oat milk powder. I still enjoy my cups of tea and cocoa.

I don't think badly of anyone else having dairy, I don't think it is better not to have diary, or that people should not have diary, but I didn't want to have it any more myself.

Now I can look the cows in the eye again without feeling embarrassed!

  • I no longer drink milk or eat much in the way of dairy, but this because I have developed food intolerances to it. I am a zoologist by training and have no moral objections to milk production. I imagine that milk consumption was a by-product of the domestication of the wild aurochs for meat and for use in pulling a plough. However, sheep may have been domesticated earlier than cattle, so the use of sheep's milk may have also motivated the domestication of cattle.

  • If it is ok to ask, what do you do for protein?

I think we need about 100 grams a day. I'm going to cook red lentils. I get why people are choosing vegsnism.

  • Personally, I don't consume cow's milk. I don't like that a cow is made pregnant, and then her baby is taken from her, so her milk can be reserved for humans instead.
