STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM ANYONE?

The Telegraph is not a newspaper I usually read but this headline and image grabbed my attention in Apple News today.

The offering from Wimbledon looks rather unattractive. There are alternative planet friendly ways to present strawberries and cream, so it is bizarre to present the world famous Wimbledon Strawberries & Cream in this way.

I love strawberries and used to have them with cream. Nowadays I love them on their own or with Greek yoghurt.

Do you like strawberries and how do you like them served?

  • it might not look pretty, but I was glad to read that they've done a great job on the sustainability front:

"The strawberries, so synonymous with The Championships and grown just 31.5 miles away will be served in boxes made using Notpla disappearing packaging in line with endeavours to remove all single-use plastic from the Grounds. This seaweed based packaging makes the box we serve our iconic berry in 100% biodegradable."

There's also a vegan cream option, so that's great too.

Sustainability aside, I'm guessing they're also perhaps trading off their visual appeal against the spill risks of prettier ways of presenting them?

Going back to your question, I'm afraid I hardly ever eat them - or any fresh fruit at all. That's not great coming from a vegan, I know! And I don't like salads, either! Joy

  • I must admit that the presentation looks a bit lacking, I can’t really comment on eating them as I’ve never eaten a whole strawberry, the texture is too weird.
