Good morning

G O O D M O R N I N G

Parents
  • It is a nice day, at least here. The sun is out and highs of 28C with occasional showers are forecast so nice to be out and about - not too hot.

Are you doing any things to make it a better day? Plans, intentions, hopes for what is going to happen?

  • I am going to spend the weekend prioritising rest. These last months, have been exhausting. I haven’t had real time for myself to sit and do nothing. It has taken a toll on me this week. So, I am enjoying some hobbies today.

I have had a couple of wins already, and it is only the morning. I have had a lovely breakfast, written a poem, and now I will have a warm shower.

and yourself? What are you doing

  • I am split between 2 areas at the moment.

On one hand I am researching a load of books on autism to write some articles for here (a slow process as there is so much to read and condense) and on the other I have started dating in my late 50s after being married for 24 years so I have a learning curve for the tech and the way peope behave on the app, plus the challanges of speaking with ladies in a different language that I only know the basics of.

It is also the subject of a blog type article I am writing about using dating apps as an autist - what I encountered, how I coped with the stressers and how (if)  to disclose safely.

On one hand it has led to some great encounters but on the other the masking and anxiety are placing a strain on me.

But it is good weather, I have plenty of alone time (apart from dates) and I'm looking forward to Christmas.

I currently live in Brazil by the way in case you wondered about the weather and language. I am from the UK however.

  • That is very interesting. Thank you for taking the time to write your thoughtful responses.

  • What made you move?

The search for early retirement. Work had become a real minefield since I disclosed my autism so I planned an escape that gave me what I wanted.

I've lived here before for a few years with work and love the place. It is a southern european climate in Sao Paulo, the food is just awesome, the cost of living is low but it is still cosmopolitan and property prices are a fraction of the UK.

In my last few years as an IT / project manager I started to buy and renovate / flip houses on the South Coast as my wife and I wanted our own place and this turned out to make much more money than my job so after 3 years of doing this we had ammased enough cash to move and buy several properties in Brazil.

I now only work a few months a year as my own boss, get as much hands on work as I want with the renovating and still make a good living.

Unfortunately the move co-incided with a divorce (amicable thankfully) and after 3 years I am in the right headspace to start dating again - hence the thought of making some useful and/or entertaining observations of the dating scene for other autists.

The other projects stem from knowing a local autism charity here who have access to a subscription service that has a load of good books on autism. I have about 400 titles now that I am working through and classifying by subjects covered and hope to make a referenced summary on a buch of subjects such as anxiety, masking, PDA etc and see what each of the sources have to say on the subject so we can build up a consensus view on things.

Using references and quotes should help others look up more info if they choose to.

This all stems from my history as a part time research journalist in areas like finance, motorbikes and areas of IT. Old habits die hard LOL.
