G O O D M O R N I N G
It is a nice day, at least here. The sun is out and highs of 28C with occasional showers are forecast so nice to be out and about - not too hot.
Are you doing any things to make it a better day? Plans, intentions, hopes for what is going to happen?
I am going to spend the weekend prioritising rest. These last months, have been exhausting. I haven’t had real time for myself to sit and do nothing. It has taken a toll on me this week. So, I am enjoying some hobbies today.
I have had a couple of wins already, and it is only the morning. I have had a lovely breakfast, written a poem, and now I will have a warm shower.
and yourself? What are you doing
I am split between 2 areas at the moment.
On one hand I am researching a load of books on autism to write some articles for here (a slow process as there is so much to read and condense) and on the other I have started dating in my late 50s after being married for 24 years so I have a learning curve for the tech and the way peope behave on the app, plus the challanges of speaking with ladies in a different language that I only know the basics of.
It is also the subject of a blog type article I am writing about using dating apps as an autist - what I encountered, how I coped with the stressers and how (if) to disclose safely.
On one hand it has led to some great encounters but on the other the masking and anxiety are placing a strain on me.
But it is good weather, I have plenty of alone time (apart from dates) and I'm looking forward to Christmas.
I currently live in Brazil by the way in case you wondered about the weather and language. I am from the UK however.
What made you move?
The search for early retirement. Work had become a real minefield since I disclosed my autism so I planned an escape that gave me what I wanted.
I've lived here before for a few years with work and love the place. It is a southern european climate in Sao Paulo, the food is just awesome, the cost of living is low but it is still cosmopolitan and property prices are a fraction of the UK.
In my last few years as an IT / project manager I started to buy and renovate / flip houses on the South Coast as my wife and I wanted our own place and this turned out to make much more money than my job so after 3 years of doing this we had ammased enough cash to move and buy several properties in Brazil.
I now only work a few months a year as my own boss, get as much hands on work as I want with the renovating and still make a good living.
Unfortunately the move co-incided with a divorce (amicable thankfully) and after 3 years I am in the right headspace to start dating again - hence the thought of making some useful and/or entertaining observations of the dating scene for other autists.
The other projects stem from knowing a local autism charity here who have access to a subscription service that has a load of good books on autism. I have about 400 titles now that I am working through and classifying by subjects covered and hope to make a referenced summary on a buch of subjects such as anxiety, masking, PDA etc and see what each of the sources have to say on the subject so we can build up a consensus view on things.
Using references and quotes should help others look up more info if they choose to.
This all stems from my history as a part time research journalist in areas like finance, motorbikes and areas of IT. Old habits die hard LOL.
What made you move?
prioritise yourself, enjoy the time that you have alone, you have to be happy with being by yourself. That is most important. Don’t compromise your values for a woman, be yourself, don’t mask, you have nothing to prove.
it’s great that you have started a project. I think that projects are everything, there has to be an end goal. They give purpose and direction and projects fuel you when you have no fuel left. For me, projects and also my faith do that. They keep me motivated, strong and resilient.
i am not a materialistic person, so I place values on things that are not in physical form. Like intelligence.
i am keen to hear more about this project of yours, the articles that you are going to write. If there’s perhaps something that I can cooperate with you on, then maybe start sharing some ideas, and I can tell you what I can do, if I have time. So no promises, but I very much like projects and I have been needing to have a shared project for years now.
