Angels

Does anyone believe in angels?

What do you believe them to be?

What about nefilim, the half human half angel hybrids that the Great Flood from the bible was supposed to have wiped out?

I find the whole subject fascinating, quite a few cultures have angels in thier religious beliefs, some of them not from an Abrahamic tradition.

As someone said on another thread, do angels have the equipment to procreate?

Lucifer who was said to have been cast out of heaven by god along with his followers and went to hell and became the devil and demons etc, did hell already exist? Was it vacant when Lucifer took up residence there? A Lucifer figure appears in many religions and myths to, whats-his-face being punnished for giving humans fire and the other one who pushes a rock up a hill everyday only for it to roll back down every night and the one who has his liver pecked out by and eagle on a daily basis, why do we need these transgressive figures who appear to want to aid human development only to be punished by god who seemingly dosen't want us to develope?

There are also lots of myths about Watchers, Grigori and others who are the decendents of the Nephilim and keep watch ove rthe earth and certain individials and maybe bloodlines?

  • CatWoman, you seem very interested in spirituality having done a course as well. Have you ever considered having your own spirituality blog. I do and find it good and love to write there.

About the Nephilim, I will give you my views-the Bible said God destroyed them and wiped them out because they were violent and abhorrent. Knowing myself about spiritual wickedness  I have wondered if people removed say in hell can get out. I have some across people like that in my life who  you would  think have come straight out of another world.

I will say this- God is innately Holy. His people at that time were the Israelites who were his Chosen people and they were a small nation and needed to survive and grow and if was sanctioned, God would make it work.  Many would do also things forbidden by God and not listen to his prophets who gave his message. The Leviticus laws regarding incest came later in the Old Testament and not to uncover a nakedness of a family member suggests to me that God did not approve incest within family. You can see this in Leviticus 18.

The ages of the Bible, I believe it to be so, people would live to those great ages, but due to original sin and behaviour  our life spans were shortened to 120 years maximum.

I only read what is in the Bible and I think it is removed it has been removed for a purpose.

  • If you believe in this, then there are a million descendants of Satan walking around. A bit like believing everywhere is teeming with unseen angels.

People can be open to believing anything, even semi-angelic agents of darkness.

I think a lot of the beliefs people have can come from images in art and popular culture. If you ask a group of Christians what sort of fruit Adam and Eve ate in the Garden of Eden, many will say “Apple”, yet the Hebrew text and English translations don’t specify the type. Traditionally art has depicted an apple tree in the Garden of Eden.

  • There are estimated to be around 1 million descendants of King Edward I around today. Edward was a member of the Plantagenet dynasty, who were descended from the Counts of Anjou. According to legend, the Angevin house was descended from a strange woman that an early count married. On forced to remain in church for the elevation of the host, she took her younger children in her arms and ascended through a window into the sky. She was supposed to have been the lamia, or demoness, Melusine, daughter of Satan. It was later used as an excuse for bad temper and behaviour, not least by Richard the Lionheart.

If you believe in this, then there are a million descendants of Satan walking around. A bit like believing everywhere is teeming with unseen angels.

I did some research and, allegedly, I am a descendant of the Grail Kings, and ultimately from Morgause, the sister of King Arthur. There is a lot of bizarre stuff about.

  •  What about the Nephilim, do you think any of thier decendents still walk the earth or were they all wiped out, that of course if you believe they exsted at all?

The next paragraph is contraversial and may upset some, but these are questions that are often raised and rarely are satisfactory answers given.

One of the things that always concerns me about so many biblical stories is the implied incest and 1st cousin marriage, would we not have all died out from inbreeding? Whilst you don't need a huge population to maintain genetic diversity, it does need to be bigger than Noah and his family or Adam and Eve. Who did Cain and Able marry if they were humans number 3 and 4? Did they marry thier sisters or what?

What about the incredibly long life spans of people like Noah who is said to have lived for over 300 years.

What about the books that never made it into the offical bible, like that of Thomas or the weirdness of the Enochian writings?

  • In terms of beauty I am not talking about appearances, but in terms of where they come from the Heavens the Holy ones which is Incomprehensibly a beautiful place to me.

I think I get it: "beautiful" in the sense of "wonderous", rather than aesthetic physical appearance; a beauty in the mind of the beholder, rather than the eye.

  • In terms of beauty I am not talking about appearances, but in terms of where they come from the Heavens the Holy ones which is Incomprehensibly a beautiful place to me.

  • They are so beautiful. They work for God and in the invisibe world

My literal mind is so confused by that. Obviously they are invisible, because we cannot see them (well, duh). But do we have to take it on faith that they are beautiful?

  • Yes, I do believe in angels. They were not human beings. I am a Christian and in the Old Testament God in Psalm 104-It is stated that he makes his angels spirits. They are so beautiful. They work for God and in the invisibe world. They can also act as messengers for God in today's world.

They can also morph into human beings for job as well as was the case of Jacob as reported by Hosea the prophet. i don't think Jacob was wrestling a angel being in front of him.

  • That’s a very good question really and I have often thought this. Adam and Eve were never mentioned after they died but the Bible does say they had sinned by eating the sacred fruits. I’m sure it also mentioned that due to them eating the fruits that woman will struggle when it comes to giving birth. Hmm. Their younger son Abel I believe is in heaven as he was always following God compared to his older brother Cain who then killed Abel. As for Noah I believe he was Jewish so maybe he’s now in a Jewish heaven, same with Moses. I think the reason why Jesus Christ was born was in hope that people would believe in him and know that they would go to heaven but I don’t think the Jewish people believe Jesus as the messiah where as Christians do. Hope this makes sense and I apologise if I have got this wrong in anyway.

I am C of E Christian but I don’t go to church as there aren’t any local ones which are running so I just practice in my own time and place. But I also believe in Egyptian and Greek and many more Gods and Goddesses as well and I enjoy studying other religions too. Maybe God created other Gods and Goddesses, like he chose certain people to be his prophets.

  • Being a polytheist, I'm perplexed when people say to me, 'so you don't believe in god then?', I tell them I do believe in the Christian god, but choose not to worship him. I'd say I have more a of a relationship with the divine than belief or worship, I agree with Terry Pratchet when he said 'witches believe in their gods like they believe in the postman'. They just are, all of them, I think there's a whole race of gods and goddesses some take notice of us, some don't.

The mediaeval church was really worried about the contradictions in the bible, were people like Adam and Noah waiting in purgatory or hell because they weren't Christian because Christ hadn't been born when they were alive? Did they have some sort of "get out of jail free" card after Jesus's death?

  • Sorry to hear you’ve been having intrusive voices. I do hope you are able to find some inner peace one day soon Pray

  • It can be hit and miss, some mediums would appear to have a stronger connection to the spiritual world than others. I always go to group readings and usually they will come round to everyone in turn but it isn’t always spot on and you may have to go away with what they said and do some thinking but other times they are spookily spot on. My sister also had one go to her house for a clearing because her and my nephew had been hearing voices in the house. There is still activity there but not as much as there was.

  • Ahh ok. That’s sounds really nice too! Might have to try that myself if I eventually get one lol.

  • I used to use a pendulum to douse for essential oils to put into body lotions and shampoo's for myself and others.

  • Pendulum, that’s what they are called! Can’t believe I forgot that Joy my nan doesn’t have that anymore as she (and all of us) fell out with the ones who got her the pendulum and trust me it’s a blessing they fell out as I always hated them! I might get my own one at some point don’t know if they do online maybe haha. As for the quarts I have a rose quarts and green jade facial rollers and gua sha. Though lately I’ve not been using them due to the intrusive voices of this creep saying I’m not worth it etc

  • in private they've been useless, they can't seem to get a read on me, maybe because I'm not there for relationship stuff

I wouldn't blame yourself for that.

  • I've never been to a spiritualist church service, but I have been to see a medium both in public and in private, in public they never come to me and in private they've been useless, they can't seem to get a read on me, maybe because I'm not there for relationship stuff.

I did have one very good crystal reading once, it wasn't a happy experience, but it did reflect my situation and the length of time it took me to heal from it.

I've often wondered why so many mediums come out with such banal stuff? I dont' want my dead rellies knowing about my lost laundry or something.

  • I have a pendulum myself and occasionally use it along with some crystals too. Quartz crystal is used in some watches too, I have a large piece I got from my local store, one of those shops that sells everything from incense sticks to large expensive dragon ornaments. The difference textures and vibrant colours of the crystals is mesmerising though, love it.

  • Well it’s good to keep an open mind. My nan used to have like some sort of quarts stone on a chain and if you asked questions and if the answer was yes then the stone would spin and if the answer was no it would stop. I remember asking questions which made the stone spin really fast and then when I asked it and the answer was no it just stopped suddenly. But there again I’d ask the same questions and sometimes the answers were different. But I don’t know if that’s because there were horrible relatives at the time when it didn’t spin and when I was alone it did spin. Like my guardian angel knew.

  • I’ve had some supernatural experiences and so has my family, they are all very into it so they are firm believers even if I am not 100 percent a believers myself. I keep an open mind to these things because I can never be sure I am certain. I’m also very superstitious and so respectful of things I do not understand.
