Angels

Does anyone believe in angels?

What do you believe them to be?

What about nefilim, the half human half angel hybrids that the Great Flood from the bible was supposed to have wiped out?

I find the whole subject fascinating, quite a few cultures have angels in thier religious beliefs, some of them not from an Abrahamic tradition.

As someone said on another thread, do angels have the equipment to procreate?

Lucifer who was said to have been cast out of heaven by god along with his followers and went to hell and became the devil and demons etc, did hell already exist? Was it vacant when Lucifer took up residence there? A Lucifer figure appears in many religions and myths to, whats-his-face being punnished for giving humans fire and the other one who pushes a rock up a hill everyday only for it to roll back down every night and the one who has his liver pecked out by and eagle on a daily basis, why do we need these transgressive figures who appear to want to aid human development only to be punished by god who seemingly dosen't want us to develope?

There are also lots of myths about Watchers, Grigori and others who are the decendents of the Nephilim and keep watch ove rthe earth and certain individials and maybe bloodlines?

  • Yes, I do believe in angels. They were not human beings. I am a Christian and in the Old Testament God in Psalm 104-It is stated that he makes his angels spirits. They are so beautiful. They work for God and in the invisibe world. They can also act as messengers for God in today's world.

They can also morph into human beings for job as well as was the case of Jacob as reported by Hosea the prophet. i don't think Jacob was wrestling a angel being in front of him.

  •  What about the Nephilim, do you think any of thier decendents still walk the earth or were they all wiped out, that of course if you believe they exsted at all?

The next paragraph is contraversial and may upset some, but these are questions that are often raised and rarely are satisfactory answers given.

One of the things that always concerns me about so many biblical stories is the implied incest and 1st cousin marriage, would we not have all died out from inbreeding? Whilst you don't need a huge population to maintain genetic diversity, it does need to be bigger than Noah and his family or Adam and Eve. Who did Cain and Able marry if they were humans number 3 and 4? Did they marry thier sisters or what?

What about the incredibly long life spans of people like Noah who is said to have lived for over 300 years.

What about the books that never made it into the offical bible, like that of Thomas or the weirdness of the Enochian writings?

  • That is based on mathematical progression, However, it does not take into account that pre-modern populations often were very static for many generations and that a lot of pedigree collapse happened, where a person has the same gt. or gt.gt. grandparent on both their paternal and maternal lines. Small static geographical populations tend to have relatively small inputs from outside. I have one line of ancestry that didn't move out of one village between 1589 and 1840 - with some second or third cousin marriages recorded.

Given the agnatic nature of Irish septs, I am more likely to be a descendant of 'Thorfinus filius Oter' than most.

  • I am interested in religion/spirituality as well. I think you may be interested in this blog post that I wrote last month as it mentions angels/messengers of God. I might do a proper feature on them in the Bible itself. Your post helped me get that idea as I do like angels and love messengers of God. I love how they used to deliver personal messages to people in the past in person. Another age. I use blogger and it is free. It can be used for any subject history, art etc. It is a way of cultivating another interest if you decide. Spirituality itself can be a part of holistic health if you find the right one for you. https://www.racheltestimony.com/2025/06/the-day-god-sent-me-messenger-in-human.html

"Our spirit can be described in many ways across different cultures. It can be recognised as the deepest part of ourselves – the part that gives us direction and motivation. It enables us to survive difficult times, to be strong, and to be ourselves"

  • I still don't know what a blog is, where I'd find one or why.

  • One of my supposed ancestors

INFODUMP ALERT! (You have been warned!)

If you go back about a thousand years, then anyone in Europe who had children is probably an ancestor of yours ... and mine ... and everyone else of European heritage.

If you pick any two people at random in Europe, you'll find that they have a common ancestor in the last 600 years or so. We're probably about 4th–6th cousins on average (more distantly related, obviously, if you have to go all the way back).

The same doesn't hold for Africa, though. The African population is much more genetically diverse (fewer "bottlenecks"). You have to go back further to find common ancestors there.

  • One of my supposed ancestors, Thorfin, son of Óttar, King of Dublin, was instrumental in bringing Dubhgall the son of Somerled to power in the Western Isles. Thorfin was acting out a blood-feud against someone involved in his father's death.

  • TheCatWoman, I must have got that wrong then. I thought I read last year that you did a course last year I thought I read. I thought it was on religion, but I seem to have got that wrong. Some blogs are free and not they are not always for the finished article.

  • whereas a man can do what any Tom cat can do and not worry about the consequenses.

I'm not going to pull it out and sprinkle over the neighbours bushes - there are consequences. Joy

Seriously though, in todays culture with paternity tests and child maintenance there are lots of consequences for fathers (or sometimes mothers) who are less than discriminate with their egg fertilisation.

    The world has changed.

  • What course in spirituality have I done?

I wouldn't know where to begin writing a blog? I don't think I'm interesting enough for anyone to read it, if thats what you do with them .

    ***************************

Super Father's are a bit of a problem genetically speaking, when you think that pretty much every white male MacDonald, all over the world is a decendent of Somerled, Lord of The Isles and his son Donald, there are millions of them.

We dont' seem to have a problem with Super Mothers, or not that I'm aware, maybe because there a much bigger time investment for women, whereas a man can do what any Tom cat can do and not worry about the consequenses.

  • CatWoman, you seem very interested in spirituality having done a course as well. Have you ever considered having your own spirituality blog. I do and find it good and love to write there.

About the Nephilim, I will give you my views-the Bible said God destroyed them and wiped them out because they were violent and abhorrent. Knowing myself about spiritual wickedness  I have wondered if people removed say in hell can get out. I have some across people like that in my life who  you would  think have come straight out of another world.

I will say this- God is innately Holy. His people at that time were the Israelites who were his Chosen people and they were a small nation and needed to survive and grow and if was sanctioned, God would make it work.  Many would do also things forbidden by God and not listen to his prophets who gave his message. The Leviticus laws regarding incest came later in the Old Testament and not to uncover a nakedness of a family member suggests to me that God did not approve incest within family. You can see this in Leviticus 18.

The ages of the Bible, I believe it to be so, people would live to those great ages, but due to original sin and behaviour  our life spans were shortened to 120 years maximum.

I only read what is in the Bible and I think it is removed it has been removed for a purpose.
