Government guidance for survivors of domestic abuse on how to opt out:
DNE. Lord save me...gaaaaahhh
Thank you.
Previous test wasn't an issue for me anxiety wise. Doubt this one will be much different.
to reduce being startled
Ha! I got startled by the size of the font when I opened this post!
Thanks I'll chekc mine is off... otherwise I'll just take the battery out and leave it in the cupboard.
I agree, it's creepy. I want nothing to do with it - to be honest.
You can set your phone not to go off - but beware your service provided may change it back to receiving this text. O2 did this to me when Virgin transferred me to O2.
My phone is permanently on silent and do not disturb - I think this should cure the problem. A siren would be bad. I think I'll be sure not to go out then so I don't hear others sirens going off.
Thanks for the reminder at least if I hear others go off, it'll just be the horrid noise and not also the panic as to what it is. I did not know this.
Women's Aid have highlighted an important consideration some people may need think about and act upon:
"If you have a secret or secondary phone hidden from an abuser, this alert could reveal it.
Silence can protect you.
Check your settings before the alert test.":

SafeLives make the same point; with another reminder of how to disable emergency alerts on your mobile for safety reasons (there is guidance for both iPhone and Android users, plus, for other mobiles and tablets):

Take care.
It depends which service it's using - only phones connected to 4g or 5g will get it. 3g has been disconnected, but there are some phones still connected to 2g which won't receive the alert.
I learned that, back in 2023, when the whole shenanigans began.
When America sneezes, the whole World gets a Cold.
The government and/or emergency services sends the alert through the 4g and 5g networks rather than to each individual phone, so it won’t have details of individual phones or their users in this regard. The network automatically sends it to every phone.
Thank you for notifying us.
I turned the the emergency alert setting off on my iPhone before the last alert and I will check that it has remained off.
The first and only time I have heard an phone alarm siren was when I was on my own in Lithuania years ago. My heart was thumping for hours afterwards, especially because I didn’t realise such a sound could be activated on my phone, and I was scared and confused.
I’ve got two phones, one personal and one for work, so whenever we get a tornado warning here in the Midwest I get double the jolt of emergency alert!
I wonder if I will get one on my dumb phone?
