UK Sunday 7 September 3 pm Mobile Emergency Alert Test

Might be worth adding a reminder to your calendar (to reduce being startled):

"The national system for sending emergency alerts to mobile phones in the UK will be tested again this September, the government has said.

It will see compatible phones vibrate and make a siren sound for 10 seconds while displaying a message at 15:00 BST on 7 September, even if they are set to silent."

I turned the the emergency alert setting off on my iPhone before the last alert and I will check that it has remained off.

The first and only time I have heard an phone alarm siren was when I was on my own in Lithuania years ago. My heart was thumping for hours afterwards, especially because I didn’t realise such a sound could be activated on my phone, and I was scared and confused.
