How do you dress?

I've often made a few questionable choices with my clothes through the years and have often got it wrong. In the last year or so I've decided to go for comfort over conformity, and I've always been more attracted to bright colours rather than black, grey or beige and the muted tones that seem to be popular these days. I don't want to look like everyone else anymore.

My partner and I recently discovered a shop in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, and they sell all sorts of cool clothes. It's hippie style so there are patchwork trousers, harem pants, and loose shirts and t-shirts, printed designs etc. I absolutely love it and it's what I wear now. I'm happy to be the weird guy wearing the hat, assorted coloured clothes and sandals or barefoot shoes.

What's your style and what do you like wearing?

  • Oh dear I think I must have had a typo!

  • I usually wear a shirt, tie and tank top and smart trousers, I will occasionally wear jeans and a jumper.  But Most of the time, it's a shirt and tie. I always feel more comfortable wearing long sleeves,

  • Jeans and t-shirts mostly. Sometimes I will wear a dress but that's not often.

  • No I think mine a tight so they stay put

  • What about t-*** sleeves, don't they bunch up when you put on a cardigan?

  • Yes, I think the short sleeves are usually tighter where as those three quarter ones are not so you can feel and see it bunching up underneath and that’s the irritation. That said, I have a similar thing with three quarter trousers so I’m not sure there’s too much logic around it. It just makes me shudder Sweat smile

  • Dosent the sleeve conundrum happen if you need to put a cardigan on over short sleeves?

I've just looked up another clothes shop, long length trouser's just over 29" inside leg, pah, they'd be pedal pushers on me, 4" to short and over £100 too! As it's all partly owned by Sewing Bee's Patrick Grant, I might write to him and complain and ask what wrong with tall people? Maybe we could all write to him with our clothing needs, like no labels and scratchy bits and see what he comes up with?

  • I definitely go for comfort and can't stand anything tight. I prefer three quarter sleeves as full length are usually too long.

I like tops with colour as dull colours look dismal and they have to go with my skin tone, but one I avoid is the bright green that seems to be fashionable at the moment. If I wear a coloured top and trousers the colours have to go together.

  • I think sleeves that hang down over your hands look nice, but they're totally impracticle, I can just imagine what would happen if I had to pick up dog poo whilst wearing them, eeww.

  • I wear anything that’s comfortable and that I like the look of really. Two things I can’t understand - how can anyone wear a wool jumper that touches their neck? It’s making me itch to think about

I can't stand wool against my skin either. All my clothes are wool free, they have to be kind to my skin or I can't wear them due to my hyper sensitivity.

  • I dress plainly, nothing OTT that will draw attention to me. I’m more of a stay in the background type of woman. I don’t follow all the fashions. For me I prefer to wear t shirts and jeans, usually darker colours as I am sensitive to brighter things. When I’m at home and not going out I like to wear onesies. I have a penguin onesie and a nice koala onesie, I like to snuggle up in these as they are soft and don’t trigger the sensitivity with my skin.

  • It's if you have to put a cardigan, jacket or jumper over the top of it. I can't cope with two different lengths! I think I could get on board with the stretchy watchband bracelet idea though. I'm going to use that! Grinning

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • I like to dress in a way that's comfortable yet feminine. I prefer bright colours as well - they really lift my mood! Slight smile

  • I’m a three quarter length sleeve person too.  Now sleeves hanging down over my hands would send me crazy.

  • I mostly just wear band T shirts and jeans, with brown boots. Sometimes, a baseball cap.

  • I love three quarter length sleeves, as they don't get muddy or covered in flour or whatever it is I'm doing, I do have some of those old fashioned stretchy watchband bracelet things for holing my sleeves out of the way of mucky tasks.

  • I wear anything that’s comfortable and that I like the look of really. Two things I can’t understand - how can anyone wear a wool jumper that touches their neck? It’s making me itch to think about iTired face  Also three quarter length sleeves! Why? Make up your mind sleeve! Are you short or long??!

  • I have this issue. Most of my clothes are from when I was like 13 and I've gotten taller since then and now a lot of it doesn't fit and then my mum says to go to the shop and talk to the woman and to try on a few clothes which sounds easy to her but to me that's a road that will take me to a meltdown.

I've ordered online but the sizes are so hard to get right and the materials can be a bit funny as well.

  • I wear comfortable clothes only and always the same ones (washed of course ;) ) - luckily in my line of work noone cares how I dress- well at least I hope they don’t :). I’m doing a PhD and work in a lab- so I think as long as I am not coming in with unsafe clothes like shorts, noone minds. I do own very few clothes that I like and I’ll wear my favourites until they break. Comfort is most important- I only wear leggings and shorts especially sports shorts. I own one type of trainer only - which I bought in triplicate so that once my one pair breaks (which they do quite quickly because that’s all I wear) I can just have the same ones again.
