Landlines

Does anyone know if theres been a switch to landlines, ours dosen't seem to be working properly, people seem to be able to call us, most of the time, but we dont' seem able to call out without it sounding like somebody eating crisps and thats before the call is answered.

I'm having similar problems with my mobile, a doro 7030, it randomly decides not to conect to a number, cuts me off and adjusts it volume, texting is a nightmare, it randomly decides to not accept the number I'm trying to text, if a number isn't in the phone book it dosen't want to try and call it, even though the number is on the screen.

As most of you know I'm a complete technoklutz and among the list of things I've crashed is a digital egg timer, so please don't go to technical on me. I need a simple phone rather than a smart one so as mum can use it on the rare occaisions she's out on her own. Mind you the last time she may have needed to call me, it wouldn't of worked because she fell over and sat on it and broke it, luckily the was unhurt, just embarassed.

  • The last time I tried answering a tech question you posed I ended up with a migraine (and I have a feeling you were enjoying my misfortune to a certain extent!)

I suggest you call your provider about the landline if the situation persists - however if you are hearing the same noises on both landline & mobile it may suggest there is an issue in the local area.   I seem to remember you saying you'd not had that mobile long - is it still under guarantee?

Some of what you describe sounds like network issues, while the mobile problems sound possibly more like the handset has developed a fault.  I've tried to keep my answer non-technical.

In short.  Take mobile back to shop.  Contact provider of landline & ask if there's a fault in the area / get them to check your line.

  • The problems with the mobile are different to the ones on the landline, I think maybe the handset itself is just old and maybe not working as well as it should.

With the mobile theres always the chance that its me doing it somehow, it is still under guarantee, I think because we had  it a while before changing over from the old one because I didn't know how to do it and didn't want to end up losing half my numbers again.

  • When we had issues a few years ago with the landline we were able to call the provider and they fixed it. Then when we upgraded more recently we were told the landline had to be digital and we got handsets which have to be put in plugged in rests.

  • Maybe we need a new landline then, the one we have does have a rest that it sits in, but we've had it a few years now. I wish they'd tell us when they do things like this, it is a service we pay for and I think they should do better, there are many people who don't have a mobile and rely on a landline. Our internet works fine, so I don't think its the line coming into the house. I suppose they think everyone has a mobile and they don't need to tell anyone about changes, I wouldn't have another BT mobile or an EE one, BT were useless more than 50 yeards from the A55 and EE and I fell out after the took over Orange and I had to have a new sim card and they messed it up. Lost a load of my numbers, swallowed all my credit with a "plan" that was for data which I didn't need and charged me £10 to get it back, after the third time this happened and they wanted more money, I told them to stick thier sim card where the sun don't shine!
