I'm Supposed to be looking for Ice-Cream - but this place has sweets too !!

Some of you will know that I've been trailing up and down the coast for the past few days looking for Ice-Cream (even in the rain !!)

I can't have anything from this lovely shop though - as it's made with Dairy - but these old-style places do make me smile.

Question:  Is £3 a scoop expensive ?   Seems a little bit excessive to me.

Parents
  • That looks like the sort of shop that could result in a diabetic coma...Tiny bit worth risking it looking at that.

Question:  Is £3 a scoop expensive ?   Seems a little bit excessive to me.

Depends on where you are. When I went to London last year I bought an ice cream there and it was £6 a scoop. So for me, my parents, and my sisters, and one of their children, it was hellishly expensive.

  • London prices are extortionate.  I remember once finding a little Tesco and buying a tub of ice-cream in there because we didn't want to pay the vendors Laughing

  • Nearly everything in London is expensive. You get charged for a lot there, I'm surprised you don't get charged for breathing in London yet. It will probably come at some point Laughing

  • I find it ironically funny that I remind you to drink and keep forgetting to drink for myself

It is. But look at all the advice I give out here.  Do you really think I follow it all myself??  I mean I know what I should do, but its so much easier to help others than to help yourself isn't it?

So perhaps I'll keep reminding you to drink too - at least while its hot - and we both should be okay (if we listen) Laughing

The other thing about seaside kiosks is you don't know how long that ice cream has been there for.  I mean, it isn't like Tesco, when you buy something you assume its not been there months - that ice-cream might have been there since last year if it isn't a popular flavour and the weather has been bad.  So there's that.   Classic over-thinking Laughing

I'm going to end up buying an ice cream maker as someone suggested before and doing it myself...  I just know it.

I meant requests as in seaside related requests ...  I might (eventually) run out of ideas ?!?!

But yes.  The deer photo comes with sheep because the she sheep are in the field in front of the deer and I managed to get both for once.  Normally the deer are all over the place or the sheep run away as you get near but this time they all behaved !!

I did actually see an inflatable hippo but it was some sort of file that didn't upload easily to the forum & it was late and so you got the Christmas one instead.  I'm sorry!!

You are a really good photographer, I look forward to seeing what you take next

I don't think so but thanks.  I just see something that makes me smile or looks different and take a picture.  It might not even be in proper focus.  I then go post it someplace and most people likely think 'Wtf is that meant to be' but people are really critical and everyone has a camera in their pocket so...   It's something to do.

It's actually quite funny as I write this message.  It is rubbish day & I can hear seagulls squawking.  Clearly bins are being emptied and some are over-flowing so they are having a big breakfast !!   If they've been really lucky the locals have been busy ordering takeaways over Easter and there will be a lot of podgy seagulls wandering around for the next few days Laughing

    These messages lol

  • I find it ironically funny that I remind you to drink and keep forgetting to drink for myself Laughing

That makes sense, I wouldn’t go to the ice cream kiosks during busier times later on – the amount of people about especially with hot weather like this must be brutal. Nice that you can go early and take in the sights and beautiful views though.  Dairy/Gluten free ice cream is actually harder to find than most think.

Requests huh? Well I would like……

Just joking. You are a really good photographer, I look forward to seeing what you take next Slight smile

Do you ever get the feeling not everyone appreciates your sense of humour?  Keeps happening to me!!

This sums up most of my childhood and life so far Joy

Coop lives on through his ancestors - good of them to keep going back to the school all those years, they didn't want to let his fans down!
So the seagulls rule most of the coastline except for the primary schools. I guess they still have secondary school territory, to keep law and order over the more aggressive teens, something a mere blackbird like Coop couldn't do Laughing

You should do the deer today (my request)... I love deers, they are such graceful animals. Sheep are cool too but not really in the same league. Sorry sheep! Sheep If you can, lure the deer to the beach and then grab a photo.

The seagulls struggle since wheelie bins though !!  It's a bit sad that they can't rip open bin liners everywhere like they used to.  They must be on a serious diet these days

Yeah it must be a lot more difficult for them foraging for food like they used to. I guess now we know why they dive bomb for people's chips - it's not out of spite, it's they're starving hungry because people don't leave bin lids open for them Laughing

I do feel bad for them though. Unlike most other birds, people don't feed them, or leave food out for them.

If you find an inflatable biodegradable hippo, let me know !! I think I just found my mission in life and what I need to find before I breathe my last Grinning

  • Ref above.  I'm working on it.  Give me some time Laughing

  • Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat when out in the midday heat !!

I didn't forget but the reminders are kind of cool Laughing

I STILL haven't got the ice-cream and part of the reason is I tend to go to the coast so early that most of the kiosks aren't open at that time.  Plus I want Dairy Free and Gluten Free options, and not all of them have it - but I'll get there eventually.

Actually, I'll have to take seaside-themed requests.  That'll make it fun (maybe!  Laughing)  Do you ever get the feeling not everyone appreciates your sense of humour?  Keeps happening to me!!

If Coop isn't around any more then maybe his descendants are.  We had lots of dove's at one point here and they seemed to live forever, but clearly they were breeding - and funny you should say that, they used to sit on the roof of the local Primary School most of the time.  Probably the only spot the seagulls didn't want.

I've also got a picture of local deer and sheep because in the next village there's a priory that has its own deer etc.  But its a seaside photo today.  Yeah this is an amazing place if you know where to look.

The seagulls struggle since wheelie bins though !!  It's a bit sad that they can't rip open bin liners everywhere like they used to.  They must be on a serious diet these days Laughing

I'm going to have to start looking for an inflatable biodegradable hippo now aren't I ??  Laughing

  • Lucky you having your giant tree to sit under – your dog too !! – my garden is surrounded by a wildly overgrown hedge but inside there are no trees, except an apple tree and it’s not really one you can sit under for shelter. The garden is south facing though and a nice suntrap, if you’re in to such things.

I prefer to hide away indoors when the sun is out. I may be the distant relative of a vampire.

Good of you to rescue the compost bin and vintage compost. I know there was one in my garden, probably full of vintage compost too, and mice more than likely, somewhere at the top of my garden. Nobody is brave enough to rescue it though

Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat when out in the midday heat !! Doing my best mum impression now

True yes you tend to forget there are actually smaller birds at the seaside. Trouble is seagulls are the first thing you think of them, that and chips because a huge thing is they steal people’s chips. LOL. I haven’t seen it happen but it sounds hilarious a seagull swooping down and chip stealing.

I feed the birds in my garden, mostly smaller birds though the magpies come down for some too. Not sure they deserve it after what they do to my car later on.

Celebrity birds! They board trains, local in pie shops… What next?

At school we used to have a bird that would land in the gym when the windows were open and that was a famous bird. He was nicknamed ‘Coop’. Coop would fly down and watch us do P.E. and he used to squawk a lot too. Sometimes he was seen on the sports field, or on windowsills of classrooms and there were a load of rumours going round that he was a deceased pupil from years ago, he was the headmistresses pet and kept an eye on the kids for her, he was a time travelling bird lost in an experiment…

All these rumours were passed around by god knows who and probably still are to this day, if Coop is still with us. The rumours were there when I was 10 and they were still hot topic of conversation when I left at 16.

    Coops legend lives on !!

I love trains and I respect your knowledge on them. You can never know too much about trains.

That must be lovely getting to see something new each day. Where I live it’s nice and peaceful like but it’s samey, nothing really changes except wildlife with the seasons. It must be exciting living by the seaside, lots to see and do, and you will be familiar with the popular times so you can come and go without being swarmed by holidayers.

I cannot tell you how happy I am about the inflatables !! I was getting worried at first. Christmas is sorted !! Shop now, sit inside and relax come November and December.

  • The garden does have a big tree which overhangs - so I can go hide under there with the dog if it gets too much.  Which it is.

I must point out this isn't NORMAL gardening.  I'm trying to rescue a compost bin that's not been used in years.  Someone stuffed it full years ago, and I'm having to dig the contents out so I can use it again.  I guess its seriously good compost in there (vintage compost !! Laughing)

There's seagulls everywhere but I'm trying to feed the smaller birds as I think they seem to get forgotten.  After all, they can't exactly go sea fishing can they?

I've seen on them on trains before but well done for the photo (in fact there's a pie shop in the next town and one keeps going in there - it's become a celebrity!)

I now know I watch too many train vlogs as I know what train company operates that train just by looking at that one picture.  I'm all vlogged out clearly Laughing

So I have a massive coastline because of the shape of it - and there's touristy parts and nice quiet areas.  I've been posting some pictures daily lately.  There are lots of holiday homes in one area - statics like you say.  I could probably go out every day for a year and see something different and new.

I'm really pleased about your inflatables Laughing always good to get those Christmas presents sorted nice and early to avoid stress nearer the big day Laughing

  • I would just love to live by the sea, either in one of those nice static caravans or on a boat. My sister lives by the sea, she loves it too, except her house is one of those modern white ones that is all glass and looks really not like a house.

When I stayed over last summer I did enjoy going outside every morning and smelling the sea air and hearing the seagulls sing away. I also saw a seagull getting off a train when I was there... He/she had actually travelled on it.

I'm trying to do some gardening in this heat but It's getting a bit tiring

Go careful in the sun... Enjoy your gardening !! Slight smile

And yes, you can buy biodegradable swimming aids... Grinning

  • I do love living by the sea. It was a dream and now I'm here. I probably don't appreciate it enough but they say you take things for granted when you have them all the time.

I'm sorry the site is in French although it makes me smile that you just had to go look it up.  Most people don't investigate things.

You probably CAN buy biodegradable swimming aids or else how would environmentalists learn how to swim?!!

(Have you googled them yet?) Rofl

    • I'm trying to do some gardening in this heat but It's getting a bit tiring Tired face Laughing
  • It is actually crazy to think about how vast the ocean is !! There's so much out there and there's so much still unexplored. I bet that would be a fun thing to do, explore the ocean. I always think underwater looks like an alien world sometimes. So much strange beauty.

I just looked up Plastic Odyssey, naturally I had to Relieved and it's got an online store. You can get t shirts, bags, a book that appears to be in french Laughing Someone wishes they had paid more attention during French now.

It's cool Plastic Odyssey does that though. Sadly so many people seem to think the sea is just one big dumping ground.

I'm now wondering if you can by biodegradable armbands and rubber rings?

    I do hope so !!

  • I wonder where it washed up to or if it hit a little inflatable boat and sunk it like the Titanic?

I dunno.  It could be half way to America by now.  That's the thing with the sea.  It looks so nice & calm but it's actually massive and connects the whole world.   Just like Santa Upside down

Seriously though, it could swell up and inflate.  There's so much rubbish in the oceans.

Actually (probably good for yet another thread) but there's a ship called Plastic Odyssey that sails around the world sucking out all the junk that's in the seas.

I'm now wondering if you can by biodegradable armbands and rubber rings?  Laughing

  • I wonder where it washed up to or if it hit a little inflatable boat and sunk it like the Titanic? Unlikely but not impossible.

Someone's getting arm bands and a rubber ring for Christmas and I don't mean me

LOL Joy that made me laugh way too much !!

  • Santa looks like he's lost weight

Methinks his padded belly might have fallen out as he jumped in Wink

Someone's getting arm bands and a rubber ring for Christmas and I don't mean me Laughing

  • Haha I love it !!! I am totally one of 'those' people, in my imagination. In person I dream of doing such things but obsess and anxiety over it instead of actually getting the bravery to do it.

Those penguin suits look so cute and the tinsel is a nice touch !! Santa looks like he's lost weight Joy

I had a look for penguins this morning, took a photo of something out there in the sea but unfortunately I don't think it was a sea creature.  I'll keep looking though !!

Let us know of your findings!!

  • Nope.  But I probably would if either I wanted to show off or someone encouraged me enough.  It really doesn't take much to make me do crazy things.

I couldn't find the people in the penguin suits locally but these were not far up the coast doing it - so you get the idea.  Now doesn't this look good?!  Wink

  • 'Fun dip' copyright overwhelmed & underwhelmed2025.

I can't swim but the idea of charging in to the sea on Christmas Day sounds like a lot of fun !! Have you ever done that? Just being curious & nosy.

  • It's a thing they do every Christmas.  They just run in and run out really.   They call it a swim but it's more about the big charge into the water than anything else - you could call it a 'fun dip'

I'm actually starting to worry that I thought it was fairly normal until I started writing about it and now I realise it isn't Laughing
