Autism Life Bag - What's in yours?

I had a thought since I like to carry a bag when I'm out. My main bag is for work so it's fits my Samsung tablet (like an iPad) in it and work clothes because I cycle to work, but anyway there are other items in there that I find useful for autistic emergencies. Here's my list...

  • Fidget spinner & clicker
  • Compact umbrella
  • Phone charger & battery pack
  • Earbuds & Loop earplugs
  • Tape measure
  • 3 pens
  • Hat (I don't like the wind)
  • My business cards
  • Bottle of water
  • Plasters & Ibuprofen
  • Small purse with cash
  • Deodorant
  • Tampons (partner emergency)
  • Sweat headband (sometimes I run)

What would be in yours?

  • Great thread. I carry my work bag everywhere or keep it in the car. Sometimes during the day I never open it but the important thing is, I know it's there. Contents include:

    Laptop and cable

    Various chargers

    Hay fever, headache pills

Pens (including a pen camera. Don't know why, just a cool gadget)

    Small box containing memory sticks

    Two penknives

    Folder containing travel paperwork

    Spare reading glasses

Hard drive containing various work items

Waterproof plastic bag and A4 plastic pockets (I get through millions of them)

    Notebook

  • My life bag, I call it my survival bag comes with me everywhere no matter where I'm going.

    In mine is....

    • Hand cream
    • Face masks (I used them before Covid, especially when visiting the GP or a hospital)
    • Torch + batteries
    • First aid kit
    • Perfume
    • Sunglasses.
    • Ear pods
    • Loop headphones
    • Purse
    • Tissues
    • Spare knickers
    • Phone charger
    • Keys
    • Umbrella

It's weighted down with that lot but I feel it's all essentials and I wouldn't feel calm about going out without all these little odds and ends.

  • I carry a book bag and a keychain, but my emergency bag is a cute little duffle about the size of a watermelon I keep in my car.

  • Tissues old and new

    Purse and random coins

    Epi pen

    Folding Knife

Receipts and old shopping lists, a piece of paper with window measurements.

    Poo bags

    Random business cards

    Dust and general crud

    Phone if I remeber it.

    keys

How big are the bags you carry around with you? It sounds like some of you must have huge ones, I quite often just rely on pockets

  • Fantastic post. Whew, where to start? Well, I have two bags, one for work and one for emergencies (my go bag), plus a lanyard that I wear around my neck with all my keys and cards. I'm a book bag kinda girlie, since my job and classes allow for that kind of luxury.

    My normal bag has:

    • computer and assorted chargers
    • my beloved grade-school-esque pencil case with all sorts of fidgets, pens, paper clips, pencil sharpeners
    • left pouch: umbrella for surprise showers. right pouch: accessibility friendly water bottle
    • noise-cancelling headphones
    • tampons and pads
    • wallet/phone/cards (all-in-one)
    • compression vest

lanyard: loops earplugs, keys, keycard, travel pill container

    Emergency bag:

    • earplugs
    • sunglasses
    • rimmed ball cap
    • gum/hard candies (for calming down)
    • electrolyte powder (to supercharge hydration)
    • almonds or trail mix
    • gloves (for sensory issues)
    • assortment of chews and fidgets
    • emergency meds
    • broken headphones I got for free, but still help block out sound

    It's an ever-changing list.

  • That's such a good idea. And the items in your bag would help cover lots of situations! Especially plasters - I always forget plasters.

I work from home so I don't have a bag at the moment but I'm planning on getting one. I'd probably have...

    • Noise cancelling headphones
    • Earplugs, just in case
    • Phone charger
    • My on the go meds, like anti-histamines, paracetamol
    • Fidgets (I have a selection that I use at a time)
    • Sunglasses
    • Gloves (for the Raynauds)
    • A book that I'm reading
    • A spare deodorant

I would love to get some binoculars for when I'm bird watching, but that's a purchase planned for the future.

  • I carry a rucksack with my bits and pieces which include

    • Umbrella
    • Carrier bag
    • noise cancelling over the ear headphones
    • airpods
    • power bank
    • emergency snacks
    • pen
    • loops
    • weserwef cleaning cloth
    • glasses
    • hand sanitizer
    • pack of cards
    • juggling ball
    • book that I’m reading
    • crossword book
    • little bag of cables etc
    • baseball cap

    i think that’s everything
