Hints and tips
  • To quote someone's message, first select/highlight the relevant text, and then use the Quote button that appears
  • To "mention" someone, type @ followed by the start of the forum name, and choose from the list; that person will get a notification of being mentioned

My pooter died yesterday

My new (to me) pooter died, it refused to shut down and when I forced a shut down it wouldn't switch back on again, I took it back to the shop and they've resurected it, but I'm not that confident about it really being OK, so if I disapear for a few days that will be why. For some reasons programs that had no business to running at all let alone in the background were running or trying to and wouldn't shut up.

    I have had adblock running before, but not on this machine and I don't get any adverts unless I go on a site that has it's own in house ones.

    Just a thought, but do you have an ad blocker or anti virus app running? If not then try to get one as sometimes these things can creep in under the radar and add malware to your pc.

    If it keeps happening take it back and hopefully they can get it a1 again.

  • I think it's doing it again, running programs in the background as it was slow shutting down again earlier. I don't understand where this stuff comes from, I've only been here, email,the Guardian and amazon, I've not clicked on any links and nor have I been on anything dodgy

  • The only pooters I know of are: the main characters in 'Diary of a Nobody' - Willy Lupin Pooter and his parents, and an apparatus for capturing insects through suction.

    The guy managed to turn them off so hopefully they won't try and load again. I clicked on the 'find out more about this picture' icon on the firefox loading page and it hasn't been right since, not a mistake I will be making again, I would never have thought something like that would do this to my pooter.
