I couldn't possibly pick an all time favourite, but here's some that spring to mind.
"Why did God make me feel there is more to be answered? Maybe God cannot remedy our souls if he tried?" - Kamelot, "Farewell"
"No one surveys the whole. Focus on things so small. But, life's objective is to make it meaningful." - Epica, "Sensorium"
"Horrifying fecal demons/ Rising up out of the caverns below/ Dark robotic astral zombies/ Eating the peasants who live in Glasgow." - Gloryhammer, "The Siege of Dunkeld" (from Glasgow, I laugh every time)
"I've got this madman in my mind, this prolific designer. And he's working overtime, and he gets all wired up." - Poets of the Fall, "Drama for Life"
"'No reason to get excited.' the thief he kindly spoke, 'There are many here among us, who think that life is but a joke." - Jimi Hendrix, "All Along the Watchtower".
he wrote it for jimmy.
ripple has great lyrics!
(all along the watch tower was written specifically for hendrix by dylan)
my favs are (today)
subterranean homesick blues
sunny goodge street
across the universe
There are just too many to choose from, this is one of my favourites.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
I love Dylan. Forever young is sung to my girls at bedtime. Every grain of sand is amazing too.
Oh gosh, where to start.
"You lock the door, and throw away the key, there's someone in my head but it's not me" Pink Floyd.
"Two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude" The Jam
"I have all of life's treasures, and they're fine and they're good, they remind me a house isn't just made of wood" Tom Waits
"Let there be songs to fill the air" Grateful Dead
"Look straight ahead, there's nothing but blue skies" Jimmy Cliff
"Deep down I'm still an awkward kid, I'm not half the man I thought that I'd grow up to be" Mega City Four
"F**k you I won't do what you tell me" RATM.
"I guess I just wasn't made for these times" Beach Boys
I will stop. I could do this all night
Who can it be knocking at my door make no noise tip toe across the floor-colin hay/men at work
In my life why do I give valuable time to people who dont care if I live or die -morrisey/the Smiths
The Who, Behind Blue Eyes
R.E.M., Everybody Hurts
Dylan, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall
"Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son? Oh, where have you been, my darling young one? I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains, I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways, I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests, I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans, I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard, And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard, And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall."
Dylan, Positively 4th Street
"You've got a lotta nerve to say you are my friend
When I was down you just stood there grinnin'
Simon and Garfunkel, The Sound of Silence
I think them different but equal, much the same with Dylan's Mr Tambourine Man and The Byrds' version.
Its Originally by Bob Dylan , but he played it solo just on an acoustic guitar, The Jimi Hendrix electric version is better in my Opinion
I first heard the song on Guitar Hero 3, credited to Bob Dylan. Since then I've also heard it credited to Hendrix, so I was uncertain where it actually came from.
I have too many favourite lyrics.
I always liked the way Robert Smith of The Cure was playful with words - mixing nouns and verbs etc.
A good example is from "High"
And when I see you kitten as a catYeah, as smitten as that, I can't get that smallThe way you fur, the how you purrIt makes me want to paw you all
I also love the song Suzanne by Leonard Cohen, I like the way there is no obvious rhyme at the end of each sentence like rhyming cat with mat lol, he is rhyming the syllables instead
Now Suzanne takes your hand And she leads you to the riverShe is wearing rags and feathers From Salvation Army countersAnd the sun pours down like honey On our lady of the harborAnd she shows you where to look Among the garbage and the flowersThere are heroes in the seaweed There are children in the morningThey are leaning out for love And they will lean that way foreverWhile Suzanne holds the mirror
Dylan again, well he is a Nobel Prize winner for literature.
Lay Down Your Weary Tune.
I stood unwound beneath the skiesAnd clouds unbound by lawsThe crying rain like a trumpet sangAnd asked for no applause
Lay down your weary tune, lay downLay down the song you strumAnd rest yourself 'neath the strength of stringsNo voice can hope to hum
Ewan MacColl
The first time, ever I saw your face.
The first time, ever I saw your faceI thought the sun rose in your eyesAnd the moon and the starsWere the gifts you gaveTo the dark, and the endless skies
And of course i like the lyrics from a song called moonshadow lol
"Yes, I'm bein' followed by a moonshadowMoonshadow, moonshadowLeapin' and hoppin' on a moonshadowMoonshadow, moonshadow"
I actually sing All Along the watchtower, I have it in my music setlist that i play, I'm a massive bob dylan fan. I mostly like dylans lyrics from the late 60's , he was reading a lot of french symbolic poetry at the time. One of my favorites is the song "I want you"
"The guilty undertaker sighs The lonesome organ grinder cries The silver saxophones say I should refuse you The cracked bells and washed-out horns Blow into my face with scorn But it’s not that way I wasn’t born to lose you"
I also like simon and garfunkel , I always related to the lyrics in a song called I am a Rock
"I've built wallsA fortress deep and mightyThat none may penetrateI have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdainI am a rock I am an island"
