I have seen very few butterflies this year. There is a walk I do near home and most summers I regularly see speckled wood butterflies there, but not yet this year. However I saw a beautiful sight this morning, a bright green dragonfly.
Me too, but the bees and wasps are still no where to be found in my world. It isn't great, is it.....
I am pleased to say recently I have seen a few more butterflies and bees in my garden. If you have an outside space, if you don't already have a water supply for insects, even a plastic saucer of water could help insects in the current hot weather.
Yes I was, we get the blue the great and sometimes the marsh varieties.
Nearby theres sandunes where I saw nesting sand martins, I didn't know they existed until I watched Spring Watch and saw them on there and then found them somewhere nearby that I regulalry visit.
Good to hear.
The weather hasn't been great for flying insects. They generally don't like it if it's cold, wet and windy. We've had a lot of that lately where I am.
How annoying! I assume you mean birds in the Paridae family! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paridae :-)
Groovy....are you seeing normal(ish) visitations by our bees to your pretty funky hotel?
I have them all
I am increasingly worried that I haven't seen a bee, wasp nor butterfly for weeks now. Where are they?
That’s a good selection!
Muntjac deer, hares, rabbits, wren, Robin, heard but didn’t see a tawny owl tonight.
The last couple of days a couple of butterfly's visited the budlea and i saw a few pairing up when on a country walk yesterday. Was getting concerned as none were around but pleased to see a little increase in their numbers.
Just returned to the site. Too busy enjoying the garden and wildlife visitors yesterday. It is good to read of all the interesting sightings.
I have been thinking this for a while, I've not seen many butterflies at all this year. I usually get so many in the garden because of my buddleia, but I've barely had any. I did see two today though while out in town.
I love seeing dragonflies - they are always amazing colours!
I saw a large dragonfly a couple of days ago, and a cormorant in a park boating lake last week.
Oh dear, I've been got by the censors again, I can't use the word for a certain group of small birds who visit the garden feeders regualarly.
I live in a built-up urban area within close proximity of a meadow, which is an absolute haven for wildlife. Although I'm accustomed to seeing squirrels, foxes, and badgers outside my home, I had never seen any hedgehogs. Well, not until a few days ago, that is. I confess to feeling rather excited at the sight of a living and breathing solitary hedgehog. Hopefully, I will get to experience further hedgehog sightings.
I saw a butterfly in our backyard yesterday. We have a bee hotel which was a 'hive' of activity in May and is near fully booked.
I have to include dogs and cats, because nothing makes my day more than a cat or dog that comes over to say hello and I saw a lovely cat yesterday evening that came over for a stroke.
Lots of different butterflies, including small blues, loads of hover flies, bees and wasps, house flies and midges. Ducks, geese, diving birds, wading birds such as oyster catchers and little egrets, different sorts of gull, herring and black headed. Kestrels, buzzards, sparrow hawks and a peregrine falcon, crows, jackdaws, ravens, magpies and rooks. Various ***, wag tails, sparrows, starlings, black birds, collared doves, pigeons, finches, things that look similar to sparrows but aren't. Wrens, thrushes, robins, plus others I don't recognise. A fox, rabbits, hares, rats, mice and voles, stoats and red squirrels.
