I have read this evening that this (question in heading) is sometimes used as a screening question as autistic people tend to have a different interpretation to neurotypical people. Just wondering what people's answers would be and whether you're autistic or not. I and my friend both are and we both gave the answer usually given by autistic people.
Also, if anybody knows of any other similar questions or tests, or places where I can look for them, please let me know. I am utterly fascinated!
5 = 101 is a palindrome, the second one... but yes, good spot!
I am so glad to see the variety of answers given by other members.
The closest I ever got to a formal diagnostic autism assessment was the AQ50 (or maybe it was the AQ10) at my GP's surgery. I was panicking in case the answer to the question posed in the title should have been blindingly obvious to me.
I remember being in the womb!
Put together they make the 27 Club - so called because the celebrities all died at age 27.

People are just dying to be part of this club :p
1+1=Terrace Howard being politely debunked by Neil Degrasse Tyson.
Question - what is 1+1?
I love this answer!
prime
2 is a reflected 7 with a curve. That was my first thought - and I teach maths! Maybe I should reconsider
they are the first 2 whole palindromic numbers when expressed in binary
2 = 010
7 = 111
They are both whole number digits used in counting systems which use 8 or more digits to count... octal (base 8) hexadecimal (base 16) decimal (base 10).
They also look similar in Roman numerals... II and VII.
They don't look the same to me, since I learned to draw the 7 with a bar across the middle to distinguish it from a badly written 2. So maybe there's an age thing to consider too, as well as autism.
They were both in my class at school.
Well, irrespective of autism or ND of any kind.......my logic tells me that "What do 2 and 7 have in common?" = 5.
At the risk of over-splaining (I blame my moniker)......2 + 5 = 7 and 7 - 5 = 2.
Simples.......but perhaps two flipping simples ?!
And thank you GI for explaining. It is appreciated.
Sounds like an assumption to me, anyway dosen't whoever came up with understand that Autists will rarely come up with the same answer to anything?
Apparently, autistic people are much more likely to say that they look similar due to the direction of the curve. Neurotypical people tend to say that they are both numbers. Based on what I've seen so far, it's not very accurate!
I have no idea, I have quite bad dyscalculia!
They both have a diagonal line going top right to bottom left, so they feel similar when you write them.
I hear you!
I cannot believe that my single character answer, languishing at the bottom of this thread, is anything other than an unarguably correct response.......I'm beginning to feel like perhaps I offered the "normie" answer?!......angst is setting in !!
That is a good idea - ie to ask a purported "real world person." I will do this when the appropriate opportunity arises.

Err, the week starts on Sunday so that would be an M...

In reality about 55% of the world use Sunday and the other 45% use Monday so it is pretty ambiguous
