So.
We've got half moderated/censored, here.
Full moderated/censors over there.
But where to go for unmoderated warts 'n' all "make you own mind up rather than outsourcing your thinking" content for those sort of Autistic people?
Unfortunately the truth of a matter is sometimes harmful and distressing, but only SOME of the Audience wants or needs to be protected from the less pleasant aspects of reality.
I did think that we autists would be slightly better equipped to handle reality, compared to the NT majority and less inclined to "Witchunt" those with non standard opinions or interests, but as often happens, what I thought and what turned out to be real, are a little at odds.
It's easy some times to confuse emoting or "feelz" with thinking, whereas in fact they are very different animals.
I won't enjoy it, I am sure, and can't say I really want to read it, but I do support your right to share it, although if it's as sad or banal as I think it is going to be, you should have attached (and possibly did) a warning with it.
Easy mistake to make, one I've made myself, I now routinely add a warning if I think (or know) a link I'm going to share (And I've a few in the hopper, let me tell you, most of which will not make it here) is likely to be "inflammatory".
I've recently discovered that my political alignment is perhaps describable as "totalitarian centrist" which neatly explains why I upset virtually everyone when I get "passionate about politics", so in the interest of general harmony I have to self-censor a lot.
Rude.....but fair.....to be fair.
Moderation please!
.....oh, and doo-hicky, to boot !
Why, what are you trying to say MATE ! Why do you think you can tell me what to do.....I'll tempt fate if I want to and there is NOTHING you can do about it either. So there. And.......Yar-boo-sucks.
[Disambiguation - Out_of_step is my friend......this post is an attempt at humour.]
I think we all have a responsibility here to support each other, after all many of our autistic community members come here seeking belonging, guidance and validation, connection amongst other things.
Our neurokin deserve safe spaces where they are celebrated and truly understood as too often in offline spaces this is not the case.
Peer support and social identity is so important.
Don't tempt fate!
Bless you, for being a soul of understanding. You make me happy and help me to retain a modicum of faith in our daft little species.
Indeed.......but, as they say in the movies......."The night is young!"
the one member of our community who could undeniably be REALLY REALLY triggered by this article, is the one who wanted to raise this matter with us.....his community. His desire to share is just as valid as someone's desire not to hear 'his share.' We are not talking about a notional "someone" here, we are talking about our Robert....and I think that counts for a lot in these circumstances.
Yes I completely understand what you mean.
Indeed. I do hear you brother.....but the irony of this particular situation cannot escape you surely.....the one member of our community who could undeniably be REALLY REALLY triggered by this article, is the one who wanted to raise this matter with us.....his community. His desire to share is just as valid as someone's desire not to hear 'his share.' We are not talking about a notional "someone" here, we are talking about our Robert....and I think that counts for a lot in these circumstances.
Anyhow, rest assured that I don't seek a "spat" here....I just thought this aspect of this matter was worth bringing to the fore. Rest easy Ausomely - I view your opinion as equally valid to mine, not just on this matter, but on all = that is how I am......and it irritates people sometimes.....I hope that is not the case for you.
Not that it's needed but it's more obvious to me how little moderation happens by NAS here.
Exactly. Other autistic communities that I am a member of have much better moderation and remove or warn others about triggering content.
The group that I am mainly talking about is the Aucademy Social Chat.
I've read this thread with interest. The community have done a good job moderating our own content between us. Not that it's needed but it's more obvious to me how little moderation happens by NAS here.
It's interesting that your original link (a more recent news story covering the inquest) makes no mention of the mother being autistic as was stated in the earlier article.
I wonder if she hadn't been officially diagnosed and therefore it wasn't accepted at the inquest
I REALLY do struggle to understand why it should be worthy of contemplation for some form of censorship or redaction in this place......but then that's just me.
Because for some members of our community, this article could be really triggering. Also, this community is meant to be friendly and welcoming and we don’t want to unnecessarily cause any distress, particularly because there is significant overlap with trauma in our autistic community.
Thanks for providing/posting the context for this matter. If a story is ok for publication in a standard local news publication format/circulation, I REALLY do struggle to understand why it should be worthy of contemplation for some form of censorship or redaction in this place......but then that's just me.
