I like:
I love Outnumbered!
Who is your favourite character? I love Ben and Karen, they definitely seem autistic coded to me!
This article also suggests that the true number may be twice as high as the widely stated 1% previously thought.
So cool….we are everywhere!
1 in 44 equates to just over 2%, so that seems realistic and consistent with what is reported elsewhere.
This article also suggests that the true number may be twice as high as the widely stated 1% previously thought.
According to that article it affects 15-30% of the population. It that were the case then there might be a lot more of us than previously thought!
According to Ausome training, 1 in 44 people are autistic!
I have read the links, thanks for sharing. In the first one it says HSP’s experience:
‘deeper cognitive processing of physical, social, and emotional stimuli,’
….which by its very nature would lead to a different communication style.
I have read the HSP article from The Guardian and a lot of the descriptions are autistic experiences:
For example:
‘She feels emotions through her whole body, which can leave her nauseous, and she worries that she lacks resilience’
Intense emotions and potential hyper empathy which overwhelm our nervous system both positively and negatively.
‘Overstimulation is a sensitive’s bête noire.’
Heightened sensory experiences.

It's not that simple though as many HSP would not also meet the criteria for the social communication and highly focused interests aspects of autism.
Autistic people can sometimes become the 'class clown' and that is how Miranda has described
Exactly! Also, I just remembered that frequently in the sitcom she is referred to as quirky but I think that is also how she feels in real life too.
I have read that the term HSP is just another description of being autistic but it accepted more often than identifying as autistic because it is not stigmatised.
Another person I’ve been reading into is Miranda Hart, she suffers from crippling anxiety when put into different situations or situations that quickly change. She also has spoken about struggling with making and keeping friendships and also suffers from Ehlers-Danlos which is more prevalent in autistic people.
Yes I have heard about Miranda Hart experiencing depression, agoraphobia and extreme fatigue. Maybe she could be an unidentified autistic? I have also read that she had a very strong connection to her dog Peggy and was distraught when she died recently. Her sitcom is based on her life and the majority of the time it doesn’t seem like she is acting.
This is very interesting as is the correlation between Ehlers Danlos syndrome and being autistic!
You may find this video about the intersection between being autistic and Ehlers Danlos interesting:

I think you might be right and I have thought that before too. Autistic people can sometimes become the 'class clown' and that is how Miranda has described herself.
She has also spoken about having agoraphobia, being unable to go out and having to continue fighting anxiety for the rest of her life.
It's interesting that her name pops up in this article, identifying as a HSP. The issues discussed in that article (being highly sensitive to noise, touch, light, smells etc) are very familiar to many of us autists.
According to her website she is currently researching for a new book on "recovery from stress, burnout, anxiety, trauma and chronic illnesses". I'll be interested to read that when it comes out.

In Outnumbered non of the children were given set lines, the adults were but the children were given only an outline of what the responses might be. It’s been noticed that the mother was often ‘flaky’ or referred to as ‘highly strung’!
The children's remarks were often unscripted, the daughter Karen always went to different schools from her brothers. The reason was given as her being ‘ brighter’ than her brothers. The writers haven’t actually acknowledged her being autistic but they have admitted she does have quite a few traits
The fact that those remarks were often unscripted makes the show so much funnier and relatable!

Thought so! She is a very deep thinker. Do you think that because Karen’s lines were largely unscripted that it means that the actor may have shown autistic traits?

I believe that I have read that a lot of the kid's lines were ad-hoc and not scripted......it wasn't intended to be that way, but when they started the show, they realised that all 3 kids were funnier if they were just left to their own devices.
It's a mix. I know many people did but I think the script still had some strong moments in the more recent episodes.
I agree! Did you like the show better when the children were younger?
