If I forget my spinners and pops when I go out I end up rubbing my finger tips into my palms (c), swaying (c), leg bouncing (c), rocking (u), and flapping (r), teeth grinding(r), etc.
(c = common, u = uncommo, r = rare)
Oh I took a photo of my fave fidgets btw. it's easier if you can just see teh type of fidgets as that shows what my stimms like to get adapted or funneled into.
Mostly a lot of spinners, pops, sliding puzzles, and squishers in there along with some fluffy things to stroke.
I answered this question a bit flippantly earlier. However, I have so many stims I never even considered one being a “favorite”. But one of my mainstays is one where I count out my age in my head clandestinely with a little tactile input from fingers, toes, tongue against the front teeth…..ect. I can do or keep that going whenever I don’t want people to notice. Which is most of the time. A problem I run into is as I get older the numbers become much larger and the time it takes to longer. So I developed shortcuts like counting in multiples or using touch and thought to just represent the number. That’s just one of many. I think they’re all there to quell some sort of anxiety or block or lessen thoughts I don’t want think about. Idk…That probably sounds like a very strange stim if it is even a stim. I could just be odd.
I used to use a bit of cotton wool as a small child, and when I was due to go into hospital my mum bought me a lovely little teddy bear. I was 6, I am 57 now and still have him
Do you mean all your fingers clench expect your pinky?
Making noises when really happy or speaking in third person about myself. I really like listening to the same song on repeat too.
I like the idea of making dough but every time I try I get reminded of why I don't do it
I bought a bread machine so I can have fresh bread without having to touch the dough.
Ah yeah I like fluffy soft toys, especially ones make of that acrylic extra soft fleece-like material.
I'm okay with dough though, after the water is added and the flour texture is "neutralised" I can make homemade pizza bases quite well. I think the main thing about the adverse reaction to slime hinges on whether I expect a thing to be wet or not, if I expect something to be wet it's not an issue if it is.
That's me with gooey things! I can't do pastry or dough of any kind, even cooking normally I have to wash my hands so many times. My happy textures are smooth metal and wood, and soft fluffy things, but not velvet, that makes me heave, and the thought of wet velvet is enough to make me shudder.
not certain if it counts, but I'm pritty sure it's why I do it,
I suck my thumb and fiddle with a bit of fleece, only when no one can see though (i'm 25 if you're woundering)
Ooh I actually can't stand too dry a texture, I hate slime (retching noises) but I like it better than too dry stuff, I can't touch dry powders like flour, chalk, cosmetics etc without having a really extreme reaction, I've been known to physically "jump out of my skin" and run to the nearest tap to rinse it off.
I like sheer and rubbery textures for rubbing my thumbs on though. How about you?
I rub my fingers into my palms as well, I like the feel and also the dry swoosh swoosh noise. Obviously less soothing if I have sweaty palms lol.
