Sharing this on here because I know there are other birdwatchers around, just had a great spotted woodpecker on my bird feeders in my back garden! Had my binoculars next to me so got a good look
I'd thoroughly recommend the Merlin Bird ID app, it's free and according to an RSPB guy I spoke to, about 90-95% accurate for UK birds. I use it when out and about when I'm not sure on something and it's not done me wrong yet.
I went for a walk in the woods today. The birdsong was lovely. Unfortunately I am not so good at identifying the songs so not sure if anything more unusual than blackbirds and those little birds, t...s. I had a lovely view of a Great t....which landed on a branch nearby and hopped between branches for a long while totally oblivious to me.
That's nice to hear.
Being really close to birds is amazing.
Once I was in a restaurant and a baby wren got in.
Some people were actually scared!
I picked it up in my hands and carried its little trembling body outside ...
I had a lovely experience today whilst sitting in my lounge. I have a rose bush outside my window and a branch was right up against the window. A sparrow came on the branch and was there for ages eating bugs.
Going to College Lake tomorrow, it’s a nature reserve so I hope to photograph some birds with their young, followed by lunch at the garden centre, proper old person now!

I have a robin's nest just outside my back door, they had 2 or 3 chicks which have flown the nest, then they built a nest on top of the original nest and had a second brood of chicks, I think there are 5, they're getting big and I expect they'll be flying the nest soon. Lovely to watch them.
Thank you.
Yes, I get them mixed up with Dunnocks sometimes (especially without my glasses) but their eyes are much bigger and they are more rotund than Dunnocks.
That's a lovely picture. I had one the other day, took a while to recognize until it moved and I recognized the distinctive movements.
I love those birds.
They are so spectacular in flight.
I'm always trying to photo them but whenever they are low enough, I don't have my camera with me.
I saw one in the road once getting road kill and was able to see it close up as I stopped my car.
Their wingspan is huge.
Envious ...
Love it! So glad they are more common now.
Half of the field next to my workshop has been disused for about 5 years due to HS2 works. It was ploughed this week and returned to arable use. It attracted at least 20 Red Kites, they have bred really well in the last few years and are amazing when they swoop.
Not the best of photos as I only had my phone on me, but the great spotted woodpecker visited again and actually fed on the suet block on the pine tree!
How lovely
I usually see pigeons around my house.
I hear owls at night frequently, but have never seen one. I have seen a bat before not really a bird but it does have wings.
Sometimes birds of prey can be seen by the hills as well :)
I like seeing the birds, flying up high, where it's peaceful and looks carefree.
I would like to be a bird I think.
Oh! dear! lol ! looks like the automation on this page sees the title of two of those birds to be non-printable. lol.
They do, I was being chided by the robin earlier, it was definitely telling me to hurry up!
lucky you. There are a group of photographers around my area who are into wild life and they go about trying to take a photo of the kingfisher in the local area. I once saw it, but alas did not have my camera. They are stunning aren't they!
Love woodpeckers.
Blue ***, goldfinches, robins, collared doves, wood pigeons, great *** to name but a few.
Always so delightful to see.
They all have their own little personalities too.
Robins are wonderful.
So friendly.
Enjoy
A general no mess mix so it has some sunflower hearts in it. I just got the bins and bulk bags in so I have nyger seeds, kibbled peanuts, suet nibbles and a no mess seed mix, as well as suet balls a blocks, and dry meal worms. The robin was bobbing around as I was filling everything telling me to hurry up
