Worried about cuts effecting Autistic people?

Please sign epetitions.direct.gov.uk/.../43154 or www.WOWpetition.com to call for an impact assessment and review of service & welfare cuts effecting people with autism, mental health and learning difficulties, sickness and disabilities.

We are also on twitter @WOWpetition and we regularly discuss matters to do with Autism and Asbergers and associated behaviours.

hi - can I just say that some NTs don't like spelling mistakes and that some NTs can be blunt!

    You can.

Not sure what your point is, though.

  • Only if you start with a capital letter.

hi - I haven't checked up on this organisation but if they can't spell aspergers properly then it doesn't generate optimism, does it??

    Exactly.

Also, @Yousif: If you look at my community profile you will see that I have been diagnosed with Asperger's. Might I suggest that when moderating the forums you consider the fact that many of the people here are on the Spectrum and so may display many of the traits of being so. For me that includes being blunt, and to the point, and not saying things I feel to be unneccessary. Such as, in this case, when I read a thread in which there appears to be no 'discussion', or in which I have nothing to add to the discussion, but where I see a mistake or fallacy that I feel it important to address, not adding to said discussion but instead correcting said mistake or fallacy. I was merely pointing out the OP's mispelling of Asperger's and perhaps I was a little too blunt, but I do not believe I was either rude or offensive in my bluntness.

  • We should also add that the petition has over 20,000 signatures and is the biggest petition dealing comprehensively with Welfare Reform at the moment. There is also a #KeepDLA epetition which we support - but does not deal with the range of subjects we do.

We hope that once we reach 100,000 signatures - we can look at a further crowdsourced petition dealing with issues affecting quality of care, better education about Learning Difficulties and Autism, holistic approaches to Social Care, better integration of Departments of Health, Education and Work&Pensions, among many other things.

People with autism and experience of autism will be the first people we consult and encourage to get involved. At the moment though - the situation with Government's present plans, makes it very difficult to offer suggestion abut positive reforms and radical improvements.

The National Autistic Society leads the way in Autistic research and advice - we hope that their way of doing things can be further implemented by Government.

  • We are not an organization as such. We are a crowdsourced petition - made by disabled and sick people. I myself am a support worker. I worked until recently with autistic adults in domiciliary care. I apologize for the spelling error. I have absolutely no idea why I made the mistake. However I will add - that I did find that there was very little education about Aspergers and Autism while I worked in the role for several years. Very few support staff were aware of the differences between apergers and autism, etc.

This was originally going to be included in the petition - request for specific training for people (in government departments and support roles and companies) dealing with people with disabilities, learning difficulties, illness, and mental health issues. Unfortunately there was a 1000 character word limit and we spent several months to vote on the content and produce several drafts.

It is something we are looking at for the future, among many other areas, and would really love more input about this. In the meantime, there is a strength of feeling that immediate concern is about Government reform of services, care funding and benefits - so we really need to get the 100,000 signatures to gain a debate.

I apologize again for my error. This is a very wide-ranging debate - and it covers very many people. It was a struggle for me to emphasize to people who may have no experience of people with Autism, but are similarly affected by Welfare reform (eg. cancer sufferers, fibromyalgia, etc) - that this is a group who need representation also.

Please let us know what you think.

  • quote"Asbergers and associated behaviours" quote "Tip no.1 - learn to spell Asperger's correctly!"...

Guys,, I laughed twice at this one,, the classic Aspergers spelling mistake and the Aspergers spotting the spelling mistake and then mentioning it.. It is the classic beautiful uncorrect correctfulness of Aspergers. Smile

I have the classic Aspergers trait of saying comments out loud, especially what other people, but do not wish too hear, but my underdeveloped social mind says it anyway and people think I am really brave to express the obvious, especially when I repeat what people can not remember,, but in reality it is just my mind looking for the truth.  Hence look a spelling mistakeWink

    Hi Scorpion0x17,

If you could stick to the topic of conversation and not resort to pointing out spelling errors in that manner, that would be much appreciated.

    Best,

    Yousif
