Worried about cuts effecting Autistic people?

Please sign epetitions.direct.gov.uk/.../43154 or www.WOWpetition.com to call for an impact assessment and review of service & welfare cuts effecting people with autism, mental health and learning difficulties, sickness and disabilities.

We are also on twitter @WOWpetition and we regularly discuss matters to do with Autism and Asbergers and associated behaviours.

  • We are not an organization as such. We are a crowdsourced petition - made by disabled and sick people. I myself am a support worker. I worked until recently with autistic adults in domiciliary care. I apologize for the spelling error. I have absolutely no idea why I made the mistake. However I will add - that I did find that there was very little education about Aspergers and Autism while I worked in the role for several years. Very few support staff were aware of the differences between apergers and autism, etc.

This was originally going to be included in the petition - request for specific training for people (in government departments and support roles and companies) dealing with people with disabilities, learning difficulties, illness, and mental health issues. Unfortunately there was a 1000 character word limit and we spent several months to vote on the content and produce several drafts.

It is something we are looking at for the future, among many other areas, and would really love more input about this. In the meantime, there is a strength of feeling that immediate concern is about Government reform of services, care funding and benefits - so we really need to get the 100,000 signatures to gain a debate.

I apologize again for my error. This is a very wide-ranging debate - and it covers very many people. It was a struggle for me to emphasize to people who may have no experience of people with Autism, but are similarly affected by Welfare reform (eg. cancer sufferers, fibromyalgia, etc) - that this is a group who need representation also.

Please let us know what you think.
