I’m leaving shortly to go to The Big Bead show with my eldest (21) because we’re both into making jewellery. I just wondered what type of shows/conventions/exhibitions other people in here enjoy going to, or would like to go to?

Well, Christmas Day is also my birthday So I’d like to think that I might be allowed some time to get creative with beads!
I still need to visit Warwick Castle! It’s definitely on my ‘to do’ list! You’ll have to let me know what it’s like? The Gaydon museum looks like a car enthusiasts dream! That should be a really interesting weekend
Ah! Seeing what the competition’s model boats look like, so that you can ensure that yours are better? Are Computer Aided Design and 3D printing commonly used in making model boats, or is that your own personal innovation?
I imagine you’d be in absolute heaven with all of those watches!
Lucky you living so close to the NEC and knowing people that worked there (although a shame about the lighting!) and how very cool getting lots of freebies What freebies did you get? What was the best show/comic con/other that you’ve been to there? Did you go in costume?
Oh and I forgot. I'd love to go to Basel World. All those watches! I'd lose it there!
I live near the NEC so over the years been to a lot. The lighting doesn't agree with me, so sunglasses and a fair few drinks before I go to anything is usually the plan. I've got a lot of freebies over the years getting in, as everyone knows someone who works there in this part of the city. I used to work there in the 90's and part of the 2000's. A few of my friends work security now, and my dad's old work place used to supply a lot of food there. It was backhanders and freebies galore at one time.
I've been to The Good Food Show, Autosport, MCM Comic Con, Collectormania, The Town and Country show, and others. Autosport and Comic Con being favourites. No cosplay.
We do the ComicCons too in London - like in the Simpsons - Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con? Be there and be square!
To show how nerdy I am, I'm going to a Star Trek convention next Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it! :D
I also regularly attend Comic Con a couple of times a year and have recently been going to a gaming festival. I also did a small horror convention too. So yeah, I do all the nerdy ones. ^^
Cool - so you've got a creative Christmas coming. We're doing the boat show as well as Warwick Castle and Gaydon museum - a long weekend near Brum. I doubt if I'll buy anything at the show unless it's a real bargain - it's more of a measuring of the state of the art to see what quality I need to produce for my next models. I'm going CAD & 3D printing for the one currently on the slipway.
One or two of my tiny postcard sized collages will, hopefully be appearing in the Bethlem Gallery Art Fair which is on from 22nd Nov till 20th Dec. All money from the sale of my pictures goes to the Maudsley Hospital Charity. The Gallery/Museum is well worth visiting because as well as the temporary exhibitions they have their permanent exhibits about the history of Bethlem Hospital and how patients have been treated over the years.
That sounds interesting. Will you buy any models there or are you going purely to look at other people’s creations?
The Bead Show was good, albeit a bit busy! My daughter bought herself some more supplies and got me a kit to make a beaded tea light holder for Christmas. I already have far too many beads so I resisted the urge to buy any more but it was a good girly day out nonetheless.
