Hi,
Should I disclose to HR that I am autistic?
I was only diagnosed last year. I have been struggling lately and I have been absent a lot. I am scared that they might give me a disciplinary or something.
Any advice would be deeply appreciated

I'm pleased that it has been a positive for you
Hello! I thought for a long time about whether I should tell my manager at work. I eventually did, not knowing what the reaction would be. However, my manager was very supportive and helped me put some things in place to help me.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Are you in the UK?
2. How long have you been in your job?
3. Are you in a Union?
As Mr T said, you need to try and figure out how supportive your managers are going to be, I made the mistake of thinking my managers would be supportive and if I could turn back time I never would have told them.
Good morning from America, LonelyColour!
I’d echo what Mr T said about needing to gauge how supportive your employer is. My current employer has been really accepting, but I kind of cheated because I work for a company that assists people with disabilities. If there is someone you trust in HR, then it might not be a bad idea to bring it up, since your absenteeism could be linked to Autistic burnout (possibly).
in my experience you will need to gauge how supportive your management are. If you have the proper support go for it if it helps. In my case I asked for some specific supports, was refused and now find myself in temporary placements out with my field and my career of over 30 years ended.
But not everywhere is like where I work. I really hope someone posts some positive things to help you decide. I don't want to be negative but be cautious and naive like I was.
