Hello - Any younger people here - 18-25? - New here :)

Hello,

I'm new to these forums and I'm honestly just looking to connect with like-minded people. (I go on a bit so if you finish to the end maybe that means we'll get along ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ )

I'm 18, later diagnosed at 16 when I very much would have benefitted from being diagnosed earlier (I went to an all girls school where the SEND department was lacking and very dismissive whilst being bullied/ostracised - etc etc)

I've always struggled with friendships, making and maintaining, but I found that I connect a lot easier with other neurodivergent people. My closest friends in secondary school also had mental health struggles and autism or adhd. But since we've all grown a bit older we've also naturally drifted apart which honestly still hurts a bit, since I struggled a ton trying to get into colleges and fitting in. Now I'm doing online college, trying to prepare for potential uni or music college.

I was quite a bit of a 'shut-in' between 16-17 as I was getting diagnosed. My mental health suffered and so did my opportunities for making friends. I still struggle today, so if there are any other young people like me that may've experienced/experiencing similar stuff to me, I honestly just wanna connect/potentially be friends. Especially if we have common interests: (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

Music: Rock, Metal, j-rock, internet stuff, going into deep-dives to discover new cool stuff

I also play guitar and bass Guitar⋆⭒˚.⋆

Videogames: indie/rpg/horror/fantasy/fun stupid stuff

Learning languages specifically Japanese (yes I'm a bit of a nerd)

(I'm a shy person, so don't be afraid to say hi as I might be just as nervous as you :) )

  • Hi and welcome to the community. I'm not in your age group, but I do share some of your interests.

Like you, I learned to play the guitar at the age of 11 (mostly self taught) I have an interest in languages - studied French & Spanish, taught English as a foreign language, and I'm fascinated by Japanese but only know a few words. Nowadays I mainly enjoy reading and playing video games.

What games do you like? My favourites are Sims 4, Fallout 4, Hogwarts Legacy, Assassin's creed Odyssey, Origins & Valhalla, BioShock 1 & 2 and I've just got into Stardew Valley.

I.mostly enjoy listening to classical music now, but in my youth I enjoyed punk, new romantic & rock music. It sounds like you are more into the heavy stuff - do you like I'm afraid of Americans by Bowie & nine inch nails, or India by The Psychedelic Furs? They're a couple of my favourites.

  • Frieda Mcfadden is thriller

Holly Jackson is Mystery / thriller

Powerless is romantic fantasy it follows Paedyn Gray, an "Ordinary" (someone without superpowers) living in a kingdom where having magic is a requirement and being powerless is illegal. She is forced to hide her lack of abilities while surviving deadly, televised games

  • Hi :) it's nice to know that it's not just me who's had similar experiences with being a shut-in. I find it hard to acclimatise back into social situations and finding places where I can actually unmask. As for japanese I used to study it nearly everyday but I've fallen out of the habit and I've forgotten quite a bit lol

  • Hi, I've never personally heard of those books before but maybe I'll check them out :) what genre are they?

  • I can relate to becoming a shut in in my mid/late teens, that's essentially what happened to me and to this day I find socialising challenging. I'm similar in that all my connections are neurodivergent now and online based. Good luck with learning Japanese btw! (it's something I should do but have never found the motivation).

  • Welcome I also like reading, I've read Holly Jackson, powerless series by Lauren Roberts and Jon's by Frieda McFadden to name a few

  • Hello

    Welcome to the community forum.

42 years old female who is a part of a group called *Estuary Ladies* — a friendly social group for women. No membership needed. We meet for talks, art, crafts and trips, but it’s all optional so you can just drop in when you feel like it.

I started going after volunteering at the library before COVID in 2020. I’m a regular now and still take the train to the two big libraries. I love reading — mostly fiction and non-fiction.

Craft-wise I enjoy making cards and bookmarks, and I paint ceramics sometimes.

    Listening to music.

Ages ago I was in the Netherlands and managed to read a Dutch restaurant menu.

I'd struggled to make friends as well. At first I'm nervous.

    Welcome to be my friend.

    Age is a number.
