I can only talk about my own experience of an assessment. I'm an adult so it might be a bit different or it might be quite similar.

in my case, we filled in some questionnaires and then went for a consultation with a psychiatrist. the consultation was basically a conversation where he looked for certain behaviours in the way i handled myself, paid attention to things that he said etc.

it is a bit odd being seen by a psychiatrist because I don't think of the ASD as an "illness". In my case, also, he thought i could manage any problems myself by reading about it and trying to put myself in others' shoes more often. I'm finding this forum really good as you can discuss things with other people who have the same problems and you can also see how we appear to other people.

your daughter does sound a bit like she has some of the issues of autism but then again she may just be a bit shy and awkward and needs more practice with socialising. try not to worry about it (i know that is probably not possible!) and try and understand what her problems are and how you can overcome them.

  • well firstly it must have been her speech thepist ,she been going since she four and has improved greatly ,her school work is fair and not behided on anything she does get help with learning support teacher at times

i think was also she reacts with other kids ,she quite shy and doesnt mix in easyily in playground etc

she also finds hard when she doesnt win games like pass the parseal etc and gets upset etc ,her temper fares up quite suddly etc ,

dr from hospital came see her twice at local clinic and last time we had fill form in on 64 questionaire thing ,and was told at last appointment she now be asesssed ,what would i expect to happen ?

Autism is a condition that affects people differently. there are contributors on the forum who are more affected and some, like me, who are less affected. I've been recently diagnosed and have found the diagnosis really useful as i can suddenly start to sort out my problems.

What problems have prompted your daughters assessment?
