I can only talk about my own experience of an assessment. I'm an adult so it might be a bit different or it might be quite similar.

in my case, we filled in some questionnaires and then went for a consultation with a psychiatrist. the consultation was basically a conversation where he looked for certain behaviours in the way i handled myself, paid attention to things that he said etc.

it is a bit odd being seen by a psychiatrist because I don't think of the ASD as an "illness". In my case, also, he thought i could manage any problems myself by reading about it and trying to put myself in others' shoes more often. I'm finding this forum really good as you can discuss things with other people who have the same problems and you can also see how we appear to other people.

your daughter does sound a bit like she has some of the issues of autism but then again she may just be a bit shy and awkward and needs more practice with socialising. try not to worry about it (i know that is probably not possible!) and try and understand what her problems are and how you can overcome them.
