Hii, this is my first post. I have social anxiety and I'm trying to improve my social skills in this community and irl. Any tips for that would be greatly appreciated

Thank you :) I definitely feel a lot safer and comfier here than I would on any other platform
Thank you!
I studied music production, computer science and geography (I failed the latter tho lol)
Hi LavenderPiano and welcome
I would say you are doing a fine job.
I try to think of this place being unlike any other, where we don't judge each other because we understand, so the pressure to get things right is off (a little)
I try to speak from the heart, be open and honest.
I hope you settle in soon.

Yes I am also having therapy currently. What did you study at college?
Hello, I used to find college really difficult too, as I didn't know anyone and my anxiety just seemed to be at its peak at that time. I'm learning to manage it better through therapy, but it's definitely a lot better than it used to be. I hope you can find something that helps you too and remember that you're not alone in this.
I like music a lot too and I like watching tv shows and playing games
Ahh ok thank you for explaining all that for me! It makes perfect sense thank you ️
I don’t know if you can watch Crunchyroll on the tv, as I use it on my iPad, but you could watch it on the website or as an app on the device you’re using, if that works for you.
You don’t have to have Amazon prime to watch it (which I don’t) but if you do then it gives you more anime than on Crunchyroll by itself. I hope that makes sense.
Ahh ok. I don’t even have a tv licence now so I only use streaming services but I will look into crunchyroll. I’m guessing I’d have to be a prime member first and then pay extra for crunchyroll. I didn’t realise you could get crunchyroll with regular tv unless I’m misunderstanding here
Soo you can use Crunchyroll by itself but you can also use it as an extension of Amazon prime and you get other shows but I think it’s more expensive. I don’t think Crunchyroll do ads at all now so you can’t watch it unless you have a subscription. I could be wrong tho because I have had a subscription for a while so I don’t know what it’s like without.
Ahh I’ve heard of crunchyroll but I’ve never subscribed to it. Is that like another Amazon prime or paramount +? Are you able to pay for no ads?
Oooh that’s annoying. I think I used to try and find stuff on YouTube. I also have a subscription on Crunchyroll and I used to just watch it with the ads but unfortunately you have to pay to watch most stuff now.
I’ve actually noticed that before that adding more detail into my responses, like verbalising my thinking, helps a lot. I care a lot about what other people think so I think that’s why I hold back so much on what I say, but it’s kind of a part of me to go into detail because it’s how I talk to those I’m comfortable with.
I do, however, struggle a bit to understand my emotions sometimes and I find it difficult to empathise with others. So I don’t really know how to respond when people say sad news because I don’t feel that sympathetic and I don’t want to lie but I also don’t want to be rude lol
Thank you for your response, it’s helped a lot :)
I’ve found anime harder to find lately. I’m having to watch on daily motion and use the Bluetooth thing to watch on the tv. I haven’t watched for ages though.
Hi :) I understand that. I’m usually so aware of what I’m doing like how I’m standing or the expression on my face and I wish I could just do what was comfortable but it’s difficult and sometimes I don’t know how. I also struggle a lot with talking to other people and I only have like 2 people I’m comfortable unmasking with.
I like tv shows as well and playing games
Yess and some scenes in anime can be really pretty, which is probably one of the reasons I love most about it. I haven’t gotten round to watching much Pokemon but one day I plan to watch the whole thing hehe
I saw some of those posts earlier actually, but the 3 good things one sounds good if I can’t think of anything to comment or post on anything else
I am happy to write that I can share a tip that I learnt from communicating with the good people on thus site - in this case Stuart333 about a month ago.
They pointed out that in communicating with other people " a more NT response that puts the emotions first and makes it easier for them to relate to you and respond ".
Hehe. can you see that I did so earlier in my reply?
I have kindof been used to thinking that people could figure how I feel based on what I am saying and from the non-verbal cues that I am giving. The same way I am used to consciously using - perhaps to compensate for those "social communication difficulties" that are associated with autism...
Anyway seems that often other people don't. So giving that extra info' in words before going on to say things helps. I have found it "oils the wheels" of social communication with NT and neurodiverse too. It also reminds me to think about how I am feeling - when down rabbit holes in my autistic experience I can sometimes forget to consider things like my emotions - hehe maybe because of the ubiquitous chronic stress!
Thanks for asking. I gave the social strategy a try for a while and have since slackened of a bit in doing so - despite my finding it to be a useful thing to do! Your question has been a useful reminder to me :-)
Best Wishes
PS I like the idea of soft fragrances that comes with your chosen name :-)
Ahh I always love the anime art style but the only shows I’ve watched are Pokémon and Kirby right back at ya. As for posts I recommend the 3 good things (again) post, even when I struggle on days I tend to note even smallest of things that are good. There are quite a few miscellaneous chats as well, I actually did a Halloween one recently lol
