Hi

Hi,
I'm Jess.

I was diagnosed as autistic this February just gone. It wasn't really a surprise for me as I've felt different for as long as I can remember. I still feel a bit spaced out by everything though I am relieved to finally know who I am.

One thing I am struggling with is coping with the change and problems of life. I wish there was more support. It's like I have my diagnosis but no after support and that's made me feel a little more confused. I saw there's an ASD group local to me and I'm in two minds about joining it.

Sorry rambling now!

    Hi and welcome, CornishJess.

I've seen that there's an Autistic adults meet-up/"space" about 20 miles from me and I'm in two minds about joining it, too. The organisers have pictures of the venue and a description of what to expect (apparently, we're really big into board games), but the description leaves me wondering about what to expect EXACTLY. Who will be there, how crowded, age ranges, etc. It's on during the day in a meeting/function room in a hotel, so I was thinking I could sort of cruise past and peek in. Why is something as simple as this soooooo freakin' difficult?! Arghhh!

Anyway, let me give you some advice that I should also heed: give the group a go. If you don't like it, you can leave. They're all going to be Autistic, so they'll all understand that it's not going to be for everyone. No need to overthink it.

So, why am I overthinking it...?

You go first and let me know how you get on.

  • Hi Jess welcome home and congratulations on your diagnosis!!!

I'm sorry you're feeling confused but I think this is something we all experience at one time or another. In the advice section theres a page about after the diagnosis which you might find helpful..

I hope you'll feel welcome here and find the support you need.

  • Hiya Jess, welcome to the forum! I joined this nearly two weeks ago so I’m still fairly new and I have also been recently diagnosed. I’m sorry you are feeling more confused at the moment, I understand that autism is not curable and no one seems to give regular check ups or that, despite asking. Hope you like it here.

  • Hello there CornishJess! Welcome to the forum.

Congrats on your diagnosis! I get that it doesn’t feel like there are great supports after diagnosis, I’ve heard that a lot on here.  has some great links for post-diagnosis sites, books, and other resources, so hopefully she can help out here.
