Intro 2: The Light Version

I already posted an intro thing but it was more complaining and asking for advice. I am interested in meeting people with similar interests so I thought I would post another intro that includes those things.

I'm not used to talking about myself but here we go!

I just diagnosed myself with autism a few days ago at the age of 35. I also strongly believe I have social anxiety disorder.

I have a lovely neurotypical wife but no real social connections other than that. I just haven't found anyone who can relate to these issues, and now that I know I'm autistic, I wonder if I can meet other autistic people who understand me.

My biggest struggle is my energy levels. I always feel tired or burnt out. Definitely worse after social interactions but it's constant!

The most interesting thing about me is likely that I'm a retired nomad. This is apparently very related to autism. I discovered I wouldn't be able to stand the pressures of school and work forever and I needed to devise a way out. I eventually decided to put hours of my time every day into learning about investing as it pertains to retirement. I eventually became somewhat of an expert at this niche and retired at 32. After retiring, my wife and I left with just backpacks to travel permanently. We have been to many countries, we have experienced a lot.

Parents
  • Hi again.

I have always quite liked spreadsheets (I used to work in an accounting role and still use one for my household accounts) I am also interested in nutrition and AI/robotics - not currently researching those topics, but I saw that the Open university do a free open learn course "An introduction to artificial intelligence" which is on my list of courses to do.

I also analyse stuff a lot. If you're interested in how "normal" people develop and interact, I'd recommend a book called "A field guide to earthlings - an autistic/ asperger view of neurotypical behaviour" by Ian Ford.

I also play some RPG games, although I am very selective. Assassin's creed Odyssey, Valhalla & Origins, Fallout 4 and Hogwarts Legacy are my favourites so far, and I've just started playing Star Wars Outlaws.

  • What do you think of SW Outlaws so far, Pixiefox? I'm seeing very mixed reviews and it is very expensive. I've seen people annoyed at the stealth - I like stealth myself. Anyway - I'm keen to hear you opinion as you have good taste in games. (Sorry - for using your thread!)

  • Hmmm.... Jury's still out at the moment...

I don't mind a bit of stealth, but I'm not finding it very easy to navigate. I'm not a very good player, but I just had to keep checking a video on YouTube to find out how to get through the part I was just playing. It runs quite smoothly but it's not very intuitive. I'm glad I didn't pay the Xbox marketplace price of 69.99 - I subscribed to Ubisoft+ for a month for 14.99. It's supposed to be only 20 hours to complete, so a month should be plenty of time (unless I spend just as many hours on YouTube, haha!)
