Hi,
My name is Mand and my son is awaiting an autism assessment and my daughter is being observed at school. As a result of learning about autism, I've realised I am on the spectrum too. Although it's nice to realise why i'm the way I am and that I'm not just weird, it's also quite daunting.
I've managed to mask my whole life.
Thanks
Thank you. I'm glad I've found this forum, everyone seems lovely x
That's true, thank you. My name is Amanda but prefer Mand x
It does! When did you get your diagnosis or learn about yourself? X
Thanks so much. I'm glad you've finally got an understanding as to why you feel the way you do. Learning and researching about my children gave me my understanding about myself so I am thankful for that. Everyone seems lovely, I feel so much better and happier meeting people similar to myself. X
Hi Mand, welcome.
I hope you find the community a safe space and a good place to be.
Hi Mand and welcome, I've never met anybody with that name before
It might be daunting but it tells you

Hi Mand. My son has also just been referred for an autism assesment and i have a daughter due to be born next month. I am also autistic myself. Sounds like we have a lot in common
Congratulations for figuring out your own reality.....and don't forget to feel thankful that it was your kids that gave you the heads-up.
I've also masked for 50+ years and was only recently identified as ASD. Extreme burnout gave me the heads-up!
Daunting is a good word for how it feels when you realise who you are - having never before understood (except normative words like 'weird'.)'
There are some really good people in these forums with a lot of wisdom. I feel at home here - hope you will find comfort and guidance too.
Thank you, appreciate it :)
I've just seen that there is a webpage for further information about local support and training for parents of those with autism in your area.
find-information-for-adults-children-families.southglos.gov.uk/.../results.page
Perhaps someone who lives in your area will notice your reply.
Alternatively, you could post again on this forum writing in the subject line that you are hoping to find groups for adults with autism in South Glos. Good luck.
Thank you for your reply. I'm South Glos, near Longwell Green
Perhaps you could say which area you live in so that someone can suggest groups.
Another idea is to look online. I searched using a search engine for an autism group in my part of the country and sent emails to all the groups and societies that sounded hopeful. I got some lovely replies back and have now found out that there is a very active group in the nearby town. Worth a try.
