Account problem

Hi,

Hookaduckduck here. I have been off the forum for a couple of days but I've tried to log on with my usual account and I get taken to a page that suggests I have been banned? Unsure why this has happened but I haven't received any emails suggesting there has been a problem.

Can anyone help me?

Michelle

  • Don't worry unnecessarily.

This website has a lot of quirks and your problem getting access could be anything.

The moderators here are very part time.  It's a weekend and Easter.  They may be unavailable for several days.

  • I'm getting anxious now worrying what I have done. Does anyone know how to contact a moderator or send a message to query the problem? I've tried to send a reply to the initial welcome message from admin to see whether I can get someone's attention that way.

    :(

  • Exactly, so why remove people from a forum with no warning, no information as to why, and cut off their likely only contact with other autistic people?

It doesn't feel like a good way to manage a forum of potentially very vulnerable people.

  • No, I haven't broken any rules to my knowledge. I haven't even been on the forum at all for a few days and the last conversation I joined in with was about rune stones. Hardly controversial.

As for names, there are plenty of people who say first names on this forum and nobody would know if they are our true names or not. I haven't used a full name either or said where I am from.

The message says "account not approved" and "you have not been approved to access this community". It isn't a big deal I suppose but I'd at least like to know what the issue is. It makes little sense to ban someone and not even notify them?

  • - it's the internet - it's not real....

To many people this is real!  And I'm not just talking about this site.  Cyber bullying does lead to mental health problems and suicide.

  • I've been here for a couple of years and I've seen some huge bust-ups too - it's totally normal on any forum - although I don't know why - it's the internet - it's not real....

  • I have been on this website five years.

I have seen the rules change and the way the moderators enforce these rules.

And I have witnessed several big rows about the rules and people leaving this site because of the way they were treated here.

I once received an email from a moderator warning me about using 'hate speech' .  My comment was only an innocent personal opinion.

Full names.  ASD people love forcing rules even when they're wrong, Robert.

  • I don’t  think so lol

but that kind of first rule, like hookaduckduck2, i believed it to just be a safety guideline.

  • These are some of the rules of this website.  Have you broken any of them?

    1. This Community forum is public, so do not post personal or identifying details. This includes, but is not limited to, full names, addresses, contact details, social media, or photographs of yourself. (updated February 2020)

  • This formatting was really amusing to me lol

    It is.

But for real? Didn’t know they were that serious. Fortunately I've only disclosed broad information like my country but thanks for the warning. i wouldn't wanna be banned here so soon after regaining access to my account

  • This isn't Autism Anonymous

    It is.

It's just that the moderators are only here part time and have been less strict in recent months.

In the past they were very zealous and people received temporary bans for all types of trivial infringement of the rules, such as disclosing their home town.

  • My understanding is that isn't a rule, just a recommendation. Plenty of people disclose their names on here. This isn't Autism Anonymous.

  • Can you capture the screen of the page that suggests you've been banned and post it here.

There are several rules about what you can post or not discuss.  Such as not giving out personal information about yourself.  For example, never disclose your real name 'Michelle'.
