Hello all

I am Paul

I was diagnosed with mild autism (we no longer call it aspergers) last year but I have had no offers of help or advice since and I am struggling a bit.

Living alone isnt helping, I am making stupid decisions and I'm getting more and more anxious and time goes on. Being anti social really doesnt help either, I'm hiding away and making my life quite a struggle.

Not sure what I am hoping for out of this but I gotta try something.

bye for now

  • Hi Paul

Sorry to hear you are struggling. I also was diagnosed with Aspergers, and I wouldn’t even call this ‘Mild autism’ as you referred to it, as it can be a real struggle as you are finding. I now refer to myself as being austistic. Firstly, do you have a job or any special interests? I volunteer in an area I have a great interest in , and this helps with socialising, as I am with people who are interested in the same things as me. Also online communities in any interests you have can be a way to socialise.

Also I know it can be hard to put into words where you feel your struggles are, and this is because of your autism.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Paul,

You can contact the team via telephone on 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 3pm). Please note that the Helpline is experiencing a high volume of calls and it may take a couple of attempts before you get through to speak to an advisor.
