What drinks do you drink?

My drink diet is so unhealthy.

I don't drink alcohol– I don’t like the taste –but regular drinks for me are coca cola like between 6-8 cans a day and that's causing my digestion to go through regular hell. I do drink milkshakes sometimes and squash but I'm not a huge fan of the taste, so back to the cola I go.

I've tried tea and coffee as well but I don't like either. I used to drink fruit shoots a lot but that was when I was little. Since I was in my teens I have drank mostly coca cola, occasionally I'll have a hot chocolate but not often.

My drinking has always been a bit like this. Flip side of the coin is I don't drink enough of anything and end up dehydrated, normally during summer though.

What about you guys?

What do you like drinking?

  • I recovered from the stroke in about 3 weeks, but the side effects of one of the medications I was on (a statin) made me rather ill for a couple of months. Since I stopped taking it, I have been much better. Good luck with the cola.

  • Gosh I am so sorry about your stroke! I hope you are doing a lot better since June x

I know your diet plays such an important part in your health, especially in later years so I am going to work my hardest at cutting out the cola.

  • My mum drinks the exact same. My dad is a coffee drinker only.

I want to try drinking more water, healthiest apparently, but don't want it too hot as I can't drink or eat anything too hot my tongue is sensitive to stuff.

By the way I think your profile pic is so cool  :)

  • I think the fizziness is the biggest thing for me as well, it just feels nice. When I was a child I had this fizzy juice that I would drink all the time, can't remember what it was called though. I used to love Pepsi and drank that a lot as well but somehow I just ended up on the coca cola.

I'm glad you were able to kick it in the end and replaced it with something healthier and something that you actually enjoy drinking.

  • Hopefully you will enjoy your Christmas treat! :)

Good idea staying away from caffeine, this is what I'm hoping to do for myself in the end as the health effects it has on me are unpleasant.

I might try and drink a lot more water now, start off slow and then hopefully just wean myself off the coca cola completely.

  • Carbonated water, coffee (mostly decaf) and tea, no sugar, alcohol-free beer (mostly India pale ale). I used to drink wine quite regularly and whiskey occasionally, but following a minor stroke in June, I have become more or less tea-total. I have not had sweet fizzy drinks for many years, coke not for decades. A friend used to drink litres of diet coke a day and developed a persistent cough (hospitalised a few times and bronchoscopies etc.) , it turned out she had developed a reaction to aspartame. My sister-in-law developed osteoporosis in her 40s because of drinking lots of coke, the phosphoric acid in it robs calcium from bones and teeth. Coke is just nasty stuff. Stick an old copper coin in it for half an hour and the acid will make it shine like new. Not a good thing to drink.

  • Then the fact I don't usually drink anything "effervescent" or rarely that sugared (if not diet), or caffinated (in the evening) means I almost always regret it.

  • Well put! It's almost a way to check factory settings :-)

  • Though I will have a few sips of coke (8th of a glass) about three times a year.

Yes! Usually when my "tendencies" mean I get a bit confused over what I actually want to drink.

  • 70% tea, 30% warm water. As separate drinks I mean, through the average day. Hate cold drinks, that just feels unpleasant in the throat. Though I will have a few sips of coke (8th of a glass) about three times a year.

  • I'm not a fan of Rooibos, it's like drinking a bonfire. I like fennel tea, but I mostly drink water through the day after my 3 big cups of black coffe to crank my eyelids open in the morning and a glass of orange juice. I find fizzy drinks upset my tummy, the only thing I have is a drop of ginger bear for digestive purposes.

  • I can relate to your coca cola. For me it is Irn Bru, Scotlands other national drink. I almost exclusively survive on the extra (max) version which has no sugar. I do drink the occasional cuppa tea or a chai latte.

Sometimes it almost feels like i have an iv drip with Irn Bru extra!

  • Lots of water and 1 or 2 x green tea with lemon every day, and a chocolate milkshake once a week. Occasionally I'll have decaf coffee with cream. If I go out to lunch I'll have lime & soda or hot chocolate.

I can't drink alcohol, it makes me feel weird, and caffeine can give me stomach ache or keep me awake.

I do like diet coke, though, and I've ordered a pack of the caffeine free type as a treat for Christmas.

  • Up until a year ago all I ever drank was Pepsi Max, usually a 2L bottle a day, sometimes more. Would barely drink any water. But now I drink 1.5L of volvic strawberry flavour water a day, plus have a glass of Pepsi max a night (can’t cut it out all together!).
I definitely notice a difference in my sleep and overall mood now I’m drinking more water. And I’m more addicted to drinking the flavoured water than I am drinking Pepsi, even though Pepsi is highly addictive.
If like me, you probably like the fizziness of the drink more than the flavour. Maybe try and change over to fizzy flavour water and slowly come off the cola. Don’t try and go “cold turkey” as you’ll be very unwell (headaches etc).
