Does anyone have experience of excessive tooth rushing? I don’t think it’s strictly OCD related but can’t get professionals to look into the sensory aspect. My son stims mostly by pressing his jaw and chewing so his jaw and mouth are key areas for him for proprioceptive feedback. He is dyspraxia so can’t use a standard toothbrush so we use an electric one but I am starting to think the buzz in his mouth is creating a feedback loop that he is getting stuck in. 45mins is the longest but over 30mins is pretty normal if left unchecked. It causes him huge distress if I sit in and mark time in 5 min intervals but he’s very good with alarms he sets himself so we have tried to use an egg timer- 11mjn 45 is the self selected minimum time but he frequently feels he’s not done yet. He’s wearing the enamel away even with soft bristles and the buzz in his mouth causes him to stim bouncing around the bathroom so I wondered if there’s an adapted head for an electric toothbrush like a rubber ball he can use for the stim separate to getting his teeth cleaned…. Or any other tooth cleaning gadget. I’ve seen mouth guard gum shield type things but he went through chewy gems so fast I think he’s bite straight through these!
