If you can live independantly with some support the night of the long knives is comming

Hi I have lived in what could be best described as independant poverty since about 2003.

I get direct payments and because I am deemed more able than those at somerset court-thus I live in a perverse poverty trap that is soon to implode.

As anyone who has direct payments will know if you pay your carers directly then your discriminated against compared to agency pay roll.

Now the other issue is the FAB assessment criteria is years old, this means that the values used to calculate your contribution do not couple up with the cost of living in any way shape or form.

Now I am told that the direct payments are to be reduced or cut, this seriously annoys me as I don't manage so well at the moment.

There seems to be no understanding this is not something that is a perk, but essential to me.

I keep hearing that they are helping me live a forfilled and rewarding life, but I think they are deluding themselves as I can't afford a holiday, can't afford to travel to places that would interest me.

They think a cup of tea and a sandwich once a week at a cafe is all I need.

I feel like I'm living in a mental prison, surrounded by people who can't understand.

I'm on a sinking ship, but I will not go down without a fight.

  • I actually believe we are treated like human offal, the unwanted problem that a greed based society does not want.

I think that the real issues that are going on and swept under the carpet show that the poor, elderly and disabled are being treated like vermin.

I can see Europe is going to implode, history from 1930's tells us we will be screwed as it repeats itself.

As we stand watching the remnants of a dying empire.

While they have tried to  perswade me to stop, I have told the local authority I believe I have nothing to loose and everything to gain- I will not stop as they have given me no reason to.

  • Don't give up. Keep fighting. Remember, you are in the right, they are in the wrong. You occupy the moral high-ground, they occupy the cold world of mammon - crude economic utilitarianism that does not care one bit about your freedom. So keep strong and fight like mad

  • Okay it has taken me some time,

    • I have done a freedom of information request to get unpublished FAB assessment values from council-they are playing stupid, but will have to give them to me shortly.
    • I have contacted Director of Mind who has suggested supplying an Advocate to help me fill in European Court Of Human Rights paperwork
    • I have contacted Health and Parlimentary Ombudsman to iniciate a complaint. (emailed and waiting response)
    • I have asked for 26 years of NHS records to show they have failed me
    • www.legislation.gov.uk/.../made I'll ask a friend to take me along and start digging on what the money is spent on.

  • My only fight so far is to throw a contested assessment back at them and after legal advice advise them if they won't use current values as they are legally abliged to then- I will complain to local authority and court of appeal.

It deeply fustrates me they want to cut off a lifeline for me and seem to think it is a luxury, even though they know I only just manage at the moment.

Too much stress has proven to make me repeatedly unwell, yet they are relentless.

  • I feel that "Leading Fulfilling and Rewarding Lives" is proving to be a "damp squib" (a metaphor that does seem to make sense). I hasn't made any kind of impact.

I wonder if it was empty talk to make Government feel good. It has no force behind it to ensure that it is implemented. Despite the Department of Health's assertion in one communication to me that failing Local Authorities could face a judicial review, it seems that reality is you can only change things by voting in a new council - and what voting powers do we on the spectrum have to make that kind of difference?

I think there has been no change. And I'd like to hear the Minister responsible for this explain publicly why there has been no attempt to give "Leading Fufilling and Rewarding Lives" any real clout. Maybe the Minister could be invited to comment on here.

I'm just hearing more and more accounts of abject failure of this strategy.

  • FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

I  really feel for you. You deserve holidays and a good life. This is your right as a human being. Don't take it lying down. State the facts and fight for what you are entitled to. We only live once.
