Can you request a job coach change in a non-dwp employment scheme?

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

My job coach, not a dwp one, and I have not really been able to build a rapport and she is not great at using computers or finding employment. I just don't feel comfortable telling her my medical information and needs.

I had sent off an email on Thursday to the relevant manager and today I got a response saying that she will be informed as she had no idea about my issues with her! I don't want her as I feel very unsupported by her, let alone told that I made a complaint about her!

For reference I have never replaced any support worker or job coach before. My previous job coach I had for over a year until my time at the hospital came to an end and before that I had two rounds of adult social care support from a gentleman who was fantastic which lasted for over a year too.

However I am really struggling with this job coach and feel I am putting in all the work in what is supposed to be "support into work",

  • It does seem a bit unfair to tell her who made a complaint, it puts more pressure on an already uncomfortable situation.

When you say she dosen't seem very good with computers, how do you mean? I've had a back to work thingy and they didn't do much either, partly because they couldn't cope with me never having had a career path, more of a tangent, I mean how do you write a CV for a medievalist, retreat leader and hairdresser and that's just the begining of my lack of skills?

What did the others do that she's not?

I'm curious and I suspect you might be asked these questions if/when you see her again or someone else in a similar role?

  • When I say she is not very good at using computers I mean she struggles to type and it really slows us down. We have to do a vocational profile and it took us two weeks just to do 4 section boxes, it took me 40 minutes to do the remaining seven at home. This in itself is not a massive issue.

However one of the reasons I want a new job coach too is because I don't feel there is any rapport. With previous job coaches they are very easy to talk to and make you feel comfortable giving medical information straight away, whereas I feel she is very guarded and I do feel judged talking to her. She asked me a basic personal question and I just did not feel comfortable saying the real information to her.
