Whether, or not, people take you up on your offer to maintain contact; you have made your decision and then acted upon it (you also gave them the option to pick up the contact and the method / means to do so).

We cannot tell for sure - they may not take up the option, right now, or at all - but you never can tell about further into the future - circumstances for people do change over time and then people might reach out to you at some point.

For instance, the nature of my roles tend to mean there is generally a low likelihood of people keeping in touch with me.

That said, even a couple of years later after leaving, when there is a genuine reason to catch up with someone - maybe you are reminded of them by a local news item etc. - a person reaches out and finds the other one is pleased to hear from them and appreciate that they thought of them at that time.

(It can happen - that scenario actually happened to me very recently).

messaged my supervisor today asking her to let the team know I'm happy to keep in touch with anyone who would like to (also asked her to give my number to the people who would) - it's up to the team now if they want to or not

    Thank you

Trying my best to not let all the blame go on me, it can be hard though.

Trying to be kind to myself by focusing on hobbies i enjoy and self care, as well as spending time with my family / dog

Honestly? Judging by how you have been explaining the job, I think you did do the right thing. It’s perfectly normal to mourn over a change like that, especially if you feel like you didn’t have ample opportunity to say goodbye. When I left my last job I bawled as I walked out even though I said my goodbyes, was going to a better situation, and left on good terms. So it’s totally okay to feel some grief over leaving.

If you want my opinion, I say do not blame your Autism for losing that job. It sounds like some of the blame lies on your old coworkers/bosses as well. Your Autism helps you to see the world in a different light than others, so it’s not fair to blame it as the sole reason you needed to leave.

I think I'm just sad about resigning, even though deep down I know it was the right thing to do.

I'll miss everyone though and kinda regret not having a proper goodbye with the team - I just asked supervisor and manager to say goodbye to them for me

I used to have these problems before I got my SSRI, taking double Max dose and it helps against crying and hurting myself. No recommendations from my side, but its better you see a doctor and they should prescribe you if needed.

I red that autistic people often have imbalance of serotonin- too low in brain and too high in blood.

Sounds as if you need a GP to see if your serotonin levels and dopamin levels are ok. These can trigger low mood and emotional swings.

If you are on an emotional rollercoaster,, with swings, particularly to the negative, that is ongoing for weeks then you may be burnt out it close to it

This can cause a loss of perspective. It can also cause impulsive behaviour such as suddenly resigning because you can't cope and want to run away and hide.

I mostly avoid making rash decisions by always waiting a few days and making sure I consistently feel the same way.

You have nothing to lose by contacting HR and asking if it is possible to go back. If they say no, you are no different to now, but they might say yes. Swallow your pride and just ask. Say sorry and you acted impulsively.

But, you need to consider coping strategies to avoid getting in the same position again.

You also should consider how fragile you are at the moment. If you are just down over the job then maybe it is ok.

Sorry you’re feeling so bad, but I’m glad you are able to engage here, although I don’t have anything practical of offer that might help.

It’s still early days after you leaving your job, so don’t give up hope, things can improve.

I don't know. You explain the problem to them and see if you could jointly come up with a solution. If they're willing to give you an appointment for this, that would be a sign they might take you back. At least, discussing the issue[s] with them might also clarify for you what you want.

Then is it worth going back? Or could you get help to overcome it ? I wonder if it might be worthwhile asking for an interview with the head of HR?

You could ask to go back - I did that once, successfully. BUT - ask yourself first why you left. Was it spur of the moment or something you would face again, if you went back?

Last week I had a several times were I just couldn't do pretty basic stuff to connect with people.

I've felt like this for weeks, but actually found it far less stressful. I connect on here, with checkout operaters and library assistants. Don't feel bad - it's better than other people's way of tackling it; by being nasty to others.
