  • Whether, or not, people take you up on your offer to maintain contact; you have made your decision and then acted upon it (you also gave them the option to pick up the contact and the method / means to do so).

    We cannot tell for sure - they may not take up the option, right now, or at all - but you never can tell about further into the future - circumstances for people do change over time and then people might reach out to you at some point.

    For instance, the nature of my roles tend to mean there is generally a low likelihood of people keeping in touch with me. 

    That said, even a couple of years later after leaving, when there is a genuine reason to catch up with someone - maybe you are reminded of them by a local news item etc. - a person reaches out and finds the other one is pleased to hear from them and appreciate that they thought of them at that time. 

    (It can happen - that scenario actually happened to me very recently).
