Other people's noise

You can always ask for reasonable adjustments such as a quiet waiting room. I have this in my local GP's. You do not have to suffer. Failing that, how about headphones to cut down the noise?

I didn't know you could do this, you hear a lot about 'reasonable adjustments', but it's hard to know what that means.

It means what help or support you require to be able to access a service. Of course this is unique to each of us. Quiet space at the GP, blue badge for parking, sound proofed bedroom at home are some examples of adjustments I have asked for.  

Hi there, thanks for your reply. What did you tell the OT, was it enough to say that you find certain noise unbearable. Could you also state what materials the contractor used and what if anything can be done with the windows other than triple glazing?

Hello, I had to go through a local authority assement with a occupational therapist in order for my Housing Association to find a contractor to complete the work. It was a long process, with lots of admin delays but keep at it as I did get the work done and it has made a difference. Note that in my case, I lost some floor area due to the thickness of the soundproofing so it has made my room smaller but more insulated as well.  

Would you please expand more on how you went about sound proofing the bedroom? as it has crossed my mind before, but not sure how to go about it.
