Does anyone else Love school holidays?

I love school holidays with my son. And so does he. No stressful mornings trying to get him into school. Low demands and no pressure. Can anyone relate?

  • I work in a school on a term-time contract, so in theory I should like them as it means I get a break from work. However, that's not always the case, as having to endure screaming kids and overcrowded roads/public transport can get to me.

More of a problem for me is that half-terms seem to last forever these days, so I feel too burned out by the time the break comes to do anything in them.

  • As an adult living in a rural, seaside area I dread them, screaming kids everywhere, rude parents and people with a massive sense of entitlement treating us locals as though we're beneath them and their 500k+ holiday homes and expensive cars. This week we've gone back to a traffice jam being about 6 cars, over the upcoming half term it will go back up to being dozens again.

When I was a child though I love school holidays as I hated school with a passion. I wasn't that keen on my kids being off school because they were always bored and I didn't have the money to take them to the sorts of places their friends went.

  • I work in a school on a term time only contract, so I like school holidays.

  • I could not wait for the school holidays when I was a child, as it meant that I could forget all about school... Well, at least until approximately half-way through the school holidays when the anxiety and dread of returning to school would start to intensify.

When my (now adult) son was at school, I loved school holidays because it meant there wasn't the stress of trying to fit in and make small talk with the other parents at the school gates, or the stress of busting a gut to ensure I got him to school on time, or the stress (when he was older) of worrying whether I would get a call from the school's attendance officer demanding to know why he wasn't in school (because he'd bunked off). I loved his school holidays because it meant that I could spend more time with him.

Now that my son is grown up, neither of us seems to enjoy school holidays. Neither of us can be doing with the sound of children screaming and shrieking when they're playing outdoors during school holidays. Also, there is no such thing as going shopping at a quieter time of the day during school holidays.

  • As an adult I like them as it means the roads are quieter.

  • As an adult I'm completely indifferent to them (except when I worked in a school when it meant I didn't get paid).

But as a child/teenager I quite liked them as it was a nice break from school and i got to concentrate on other interests for a bit.
