He wouldn’t be the first president to do a third term regardless of the amendment. FDR has that honor.

It’s either that or he keeps the country in a state of approaching civil war so elections get cancelled. I expect he shall try crush the competition first misusing his presidential powers. I just cannot see him not trying to stay in power this time around, he would take it as too big of a loss for his ego.

I'd missed that possibility. The 22nd amendment prevents him from being elected president for a third time, but it doesn't prevent him from being a vice president. If I were President Vance, I'd go peacefully!

If Vance runs for it and wins he could possibly hand it back down to Trump. That’s another way Trump becomes president again if the constitution doesn’t allow it through election. It’s a real worry watching from this side of the pond though, that’s for sure. 

Yeah, Trump’s going to run again. He’s not supposed to run for a third term, but he will. So long as they can keep pretending he’s healthy enough.

It’s a real concern the next 4 years or so. Let’s hope democracy wins 2028 or it’s gone forever. 

The only remedy that I can see is reintegration with the, relatively, sane governments in the EU.

Hmm … It’s just his usual style of obliterating people who don’t align with his understanding of “science”. Well that’s not totally accurate - I know he thought bleach could treat Covid, but in this case he is simply seeking political advantage to serve his own interests.

I often wonder how the UK government (of whatever colour) would behave if the USA went all out fascist.

Would the UK follow its lead, cherry pick the bits they wanted or stand in defiance?

I'm thinking it would follow suit - our population lack the willpower to resist effectively and the governments of recent years have stolen their ability to do so plus are keeping you under constant surveillance so can pre-empt resistance.

The UKs goose is already cooked I think, regardless of how the USA moves
