Does putting transcripts through AI aid learning?

I had a text based interaction with someone which went a bit strangely. I decided to ask AI, Gemini and Copilot, what they thought for another perspective.

I asked if it could analyse a conversation and then put the whole lot in unedited. I gave it no directions.

I think it can be a useful tool to aid learning. It can highlight points where misunderstanding happened. I'd not use it to apportion blame, just to see where errors occur.

It highlighted the issue of online text communication going wrong, where you miss social cues and context. Words can be misunderstood, through bias, accident or intention. AI could do the same but it should give the most likely normal interpretation. A transcript of a face to face interaction put through ai may be less reliable though as it misses some data.

It was interesting and confirmed my thoughts, it was not me in this case. My instincts were correct. Since ASD has communication issues I am trying to see where my issues lie. I can't control other people. A more significant interaction earlier in the day had also gone fine.

  • Is AI getting a top notch education at AI universities or skipping class?

It is behind the bike sheds having a ciggie and gossiping with Elon about what is in the Epstein Files...

  • I expect AI corrects itself if people contradict it. Algorithms do the sifting.

Having said that, not everything will be corrected.

  • How does AI know to weigh this info and sift fact from opinion from lies?

One man’s fact is another man’s lie so that’s a good point. AI may be growing a longer nose than it’s aware of, who’s in charge to make sure it’s learning the correct and factual information?. That’s the responsibility of its creators….or is it? Everyone who uses the internet changes the original information in some way, they add, edit, delete, cut, copy, paste. They will leave a trace and a personal mark on it whatever that may be and that’s the mark the AI will learn from. Is AI getting a top notch education at AI universities or skipping class?

  • It is sometimes difficult to find credible websites easily

If you look at any kind of social media, even YouTube etc where people are free to post their rambings then it adds to the volume of supporting "evidence" for AI to draw on.

Also seeing how vocal many misinformation spreaders are, they are doing a disproportionate job of getting their version of the "truth" out there.

How does AI know to weigh this info and sift fact from opinion from lies?

  • Yes, that is what I was considering. It is sometimes difficult to find credible websites easily, with much nonsense written about all kinds of things.

  • Some people believe misinformation on social media, or choose to repeat it knowing it is untrue

It is exactly this that seeps into other forms of publication online and slowly poisons the internet for accuracy.

  • Excellent links explaining why we can be susceptible to confirmation bias.

Teachers are concerned that they are not receiving adequate training on the use of AI, as the TES research demonstrates:

In our research, more than nine in 10 teachers had concerns about AI. The biggest worries were around pupils cheating, inaccurate or unreliable information, bias or unfairness in how AI works, and data privacy.

Some people believe misinformation on social media, or choose to repeat it knowing it is untrue, so I am concerned about how much more confirmation bias will exacerbate the existing problem. I fear that the world will be flooded with more lies and misinformation unless governments get together to agree on measures to tackle the problem.

  • the one where I observed the highest percentage of adult students genuinely struggling with taking onboard a new concept - was the one which made reference to confirmation bias.

I think that is because if "feels" so right to have something agree with what you think - it is validating, empowering and gives a dopamine response like many addictive substances.

To be willing to look at things which prove you wrong and consider them on face value takes courage that many people just cannot be bothered to muster.

It feels like a very human failing. Maybe Skynet would be right to replace us with something more logical LOL.
