Help to survive workplace until Access to Work calls my number?

I'm trying to get psychological practical help on how to handle Autism + ADHD characteristics.

For ADHD I've got medication but where I live they only allow one route: either only psychologist OR medication (as if a ND person can "choose" to need one OR the other)

My private insurance doesn't cover psychologist because I am neurodivergnt, and therefore a Premium tier is needed (as if ND is premium anything).

Raise request for Access to Work to see if I can get a grant for a coach / psychologist / whatever can help me.

Probably burning all the bridges at work because I can't handle 10s of "office politics faff" without calling it out (especially from people up in the food chain - gotta love hierarchy soooooo much like I love Unamused)

Even people that used to like me are slowly taking distance. Some others that don't like me that much don't feel bad at laughing at me anymore (sometimes I feel like disclosing just to make them "feel bad" - because everyone wants to be an angel when you mention inclusivity, right?)

What can I do? Anything anyone can suggest to help me survive the scenario? How can I keep my mouth shut without having to leave the room immediately to avoid calling a senior leader on their delirious ideas in front of everyone?

I would suggest taking time to stop and consder the implications of saying what you want to say then considering how it will affect you and your colleagues.

Calling out those above you in the food chain at work is a really dangerous thing to do for your career as you become labelled a troublemaker and will quickly find yourself being put in situations where you get work you hate, get unreasonable performance objectives that you will fail on or being marginalised to the point you wonder if it is even worth coming to work anymore.

Focus on the ideas and not the person would be my suggestion. Consider how they could be made to work effectively (rather than just calling it a dumb idea for example) and give positive feedback that shows you as contributing to it rather than being only negative.

To survice the workplace you need to learn to care less in my experience - treat it as a way to earn a salary and don't get too involved in the how and why. Just turn up, do what is expected of you and leave again to live outside of work.

My private insurance doesn't cover psychologist

I would recommend getting one privately - they seem to be around £50/hour so are not as absurd as US prices and hopefully you can afford one or two sessions a month to work on your issues.

Do the meds actually help? If not then switching to asking for a psychologist instead seems a logical choice.

You discuss how your insurance is used for this - how about going to your GP and see if they will cover the meds and let your insurance cover the psychologist. This is assuming you are UK based of course

  • I had to change the post because the moderator said I couldn't post request for help with app idea. But thanks for offering :) appreciate

  • This sounds super practical and honest, love that you’re cutting through all the usual fluff. Having something that tracks daily ups and downs, then uses AI to give you tailored exercises, sounds really useful for anyone tired of waiting on the system or feeling misunderstood. I’m curious how it handles the “fluctuating” part over time and how customizable it gets for different moods or situations. Definitely count me in to try it out when you’re ready!
