Do you appreciate "Signposting" or would you rather a personal response

How do you feel when someone responds to a question by pointing you to another resource or piece of information instead of giving a direct answer? Do you find it helpful, dismissive, or something else entirely?

  • There's an 'Advice and guidance' section which some see before posting.  Other's aren't aware that it is there.  I've mentioned before that perhaps it could be highlighted in a different colour - to draw more attention to it.

I also feel that 'Urgent Help' could be highlighted for obvious other reasons.

The NAS are continually updating the advice and guidance offered.   Sometimes links provided by people here - including myself - are from organisations not covered by the NAS help pages.

Sometimes it isn't abundantly clear whether the poster wants merely to discuss or debate their situation.  They may find a link helpful - we don't know.  Others actively ask to be signposted.

I don't think you can generalise - it is a sometimes yes, sometimes no situation.  Sometimes both.
