The Grand National has claimed another victim, a horse that collapsed on the track, but later seemed to recover died during the night. How much longer will this cruel insanity go on?

Thanks for the tip O&U most oif the time my food habits make no sense, its a combination of smell, texture and appearance or even things I have seen/heard in relation to the food. I remember as a child I used to love fig biscuits then I saw a programme on TV which showed some kind of wasp thing living inside a fig. That was it, I have never eaten figs again! I am sure there are people worst than me but I know I am very restricted :)
it often give me gastrointestinal issues
You might try the quorn mince. As with any mince, the fact that you are consuming a less fibrous product should make it easier to digest, and I haven't ever noticed a digestive problem after eating it. In fact, you'd not really notice it wasn't meat if put in a chili or lasagne.
I'm quite happy to take the blame should it not be to your liking!
Thanks for the cooking and food tips. I am really fussy eater. Unfortunately if I can manage to eat some stuff it often give me gastrointestinal issues. I have a limited range of things that I stick to which I know I can stomach. I’m really bad with food things and very specific.
Have you tried the frozen veggie/soya mince? I get mine from tesco, I can pretty much everything I could do with meat mince, bolognaises, curries, chilli's etc. I use quorn pieces in a thai style curry, I guess you could use it in anything that you'd normally use chicken for, except a roast of course. I also use quorn sausages in things like toad in the hole. Maybe you could make a few swaps and eat less meat in a less scary way, if thats what you want to do.
Probably i despised Fox hunting too. We just need to treat animals with respect, and look after them. I have tried being vegetarian but failed badly. My diet and tastes are too limited.. I was making myself ill.
The solution would be to ban the owning of horses altogether - that would teach them all a lesson.
Let them live in the wild and not in captivity.
I wonder if we'd be classed as townies who don't understand the countryside, like we were in the fox hunting debate?
Indeed.
If anyone wants to look it up, the data is from Animal Aid 2007 entitled the DeathWatch 1st Year.
I am not posting non-Autism related links as they seem to get you into the moderation chamber.
If people knew how many horses died every year then they'd start demanding an end to it all and the race owners wouldn't be able to say we're all vegan, woke, culture warriors.
A few years ago they monitored one season of NH racing and found 160 horses died just at the race meetings themselves.
Now you can't find the figures as it clearly makes bad press.
I'd be happy to see the whole sorry business banned and go the way of fox hunting. I've never been to a horse race and I've never wanted too, I don't see the attraction or the point. Obviously I know the point is for some humans to make a ridiculous amount of money and even more to lose ridiculous amounts of money.
I don't know why people focus on that one race so much. The whole of National Hunt racing is geared to the Grand National and Cheltenham meetings, and perhaps it would be more circumspect to look at how many horses perish per season in total.
In fact, we could also ask about the horses that don't make the grade. National Hunt horses live comparatively longer, while Flat racing horses are often useless after 4 or 5. What happens to them?
Banning the Grand National, reducing the length of the race or making the whip softer and less harmful are just window-dressing measures when the whole industry is a disgustingly cruel, arcane throwback to bygone days.
The poor animal, and the jockey pushed it on when the helpless thing was struggling. I think the jockey is being prosecuted or fined by the racing authorities. I had to skim read that bit of the news as it is too distressing. Some people have no appreciation for the suffering of animals, even when it is clearly visible. Not all these people are autistic, and clearly, there is much empathy in the autistic community.
