List of forum faults part 2

As this thread has been locked I'm starting a new one.

List of what is currently wrong with the forum

I'm constantly getting this now

  • I hope so too, if they are then they need to ask for their money back!

  • There seems to be another cache-related issue (presumably due to the cloud hosting) whereby edits to a post sometimes don't show up, even after refreshing the page.

The only solution I found was to delete all stored website data from my browser (cookies, etc) and then refresh again. This also means needing to log in again. We obviously can't all keep doing this in order to ensue that we're replying to what's actually been said.

I've reported this by email, but just sharing here too.

I hope the NAS isn't being charged by the hour by its technical partner for rectifying all of the issues that the "upgrade" has created.

  • Moderators are not reading private messages.

Some users are having their posts incorrectly marked as spam which is causing them to be sent to the moderation queue. These posts are marked as "spam" on our administration panel. We can quickly scan these a few times each day during normal working hours and release them. We are actively seeking a solution to this problem.

This spam filter issue is different from pre-moderation. The moderation team occasionally take the decision to place an account under pre-moderation – meaning posts and comments (but not private messages) are reviewed by a moderator before they are published. This only happens in response to breaches of the rules that merit this action. Any user whose account is placed in pre-moderation is emailed to tell them exactly what rule was broken and why their account has been placed into pre-moderation.

    Many thanks

    Sharon Mod

  • Hello everyone
Thank you so much to everyone who emails us at communitymanager@nas.org.uk to let us know of any technical problems you are having with the platform. We create a log of each issue and pass the details on to the technical support team to investigate. This has allowed us to fix many of the issues that you have told us about since the move to a cloud-based platform.

This thread is helpful, but it has a few posts describing technical issues that we have not been told about. We do not want to miss any issues you are having, so please can you email us at communitymanager@nas.org.uk also.

We are still working on all the issues we know about and apologise that these have made it difficult for many of you to make use of the Online Community. We know how valuable this space is to so many of you.

    Best wishes

    Sharon Mod

  • God luck!.

Thank you for telling us because it helps us ALL not to take it personally.

I hope you will persevere and that the MODS can help you promptly.

  • I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem. This morning I decided to finally start posting and have had issues with updating my profile name and description. At times it reverts back to my given NAS name and number, and removes what I wrote on my bio.

I have emailed the community manager about this. Will post here once I have a reply.

  • Wondering why I even try to be here.

I'm trying to reply on a thread and getting this each time and the post doesn't show.

  • MODERATORS ARE READING OUR PRIVATE MESSAGES

Just a reminder that they're not (unless whoever you send them to has reported them):

Additionally, we’ve noted that some private messages from flagged accounts are being sent into moderation. While this is being investigated, we want to reassure you that private messages are not read by the Moderation Team unless the recipient shares with it us when they have concerns about its content or rule violations.

  • Getting lots of "phantom" notifications tonight.......My lightening strike turns orange, with a 1 in the red circle.....and then it disappears again - either by itself - or if I try to "click" on the notification.

  • Just bumped an old thread but it doesn't appear here in recent activity. It's made me realise that more old or revived threads than before probably never get seen as most (Myself included) will naturally forget about the siloed categories, believing the default page to a have a bit of everything.

  • I would certainly ask the "moderation team" to explain why you have been "placed in moderation" and how long you will be "held there."  Anything short of these things would SURELY constitute some kind of cruel and unusual punishment.......by an organisation that professes to support, understand AND provide facilities to us?

I am sorry Mark ..... AND that you for speaking up about this here.

  • Yep

It all got a bit dystopian, in the name of "Security".

A macrocosm of wider reality, unfortunately.for some.

  • MODERATORS ARE READING OUR PRIVATE MESSAGES

I don't know for sure, but I have evidence. I finally got a reply to my e-mail asking why posts and pms are going into moderation and why some messages are never appearing at all yesterday, after being ignored for over 2 weeks. Here's the relevant part:

" your account was placed in moderation. The action that has been taken is to protect other users on the forum. As your account remains in moderation this means that your posts are reviewed by the moderation team before being published to the Online Community."

So what I thought was a forum bug is obviously deliberate. And the lack of any indication that pms aren't being "reviewed by the moderation team" seems to strongly suggest that they are! (And no, obviously this does not protect anybody!)

  • Tomorrow is the 5th day since I emailed my complaint to NAS.

I can't find from their complaints resolution policy where to go after this as there doesn't seem to be a signpost, so I do hope they actually acknowledge receipt tomorrow:

We will acknowledge receipt of a written complaint within 5
working days where we have return details and you can expect
to have a full reply within 28 working days

I note in the wording 'you can expect' rather than 'we will'.

    No surprise there.

  • And not surprisingly at all, the message above doesn't appear until 3 days after I wrote it, so nobody sees it as it's right down here, and it was  quite possibly a waste  of time writing it!

  • Hugging fortunately not been having any problems so far

  • It will have gone straight into the moderation queue / waiting room for one reason or another, so it will appear eventually, once it's been checked and approved.

    I don't think so.

I believe this is a new and different fault.

  • Annoying because when it happens I lose the whole message and it doesn't get saved as a draft. I uploaded to the creative page yesterday and that's now gone

It will have gone straight into the moderation queue / waiting room for one reason or another, so it will appear eventually, once it's been checked and approved.

The fact that O&U received an email notification of the post supports this, rather than it just having disappeared and been lost completely.

It's very annoying, but at least we know that they're working on the issues.

  • I've emailed.

Annoying because when it happens I lose the whole message and it doesn't get saved as a draft. I uploaded to the creative page yesterday and that's now gone.

  • I got this problem right now hardly any of my messages have appeared today

It would be good if you feel able to email the Community Manager about this.

We are in danger of losing more contributors because of this new fault.
