What are everyone’s plans for Christmas?

Hi with only 5 more sleeps til Christmas what will everyone be doing? Me well it’s going to be hard this year as it will be my first Christmas without any of my parents. As some of you know my mum passed sway a few years ago and my dad is staying in Scotland with his partner Sheila this year. So my friend Rikki is coming over for the day and we will cook Christmas dinner together and just spend the day together. I have bought some nice treats for my dog and she will also have a nice Christmas dinner with us. I’ve got Rikki a really nice present and hopefully I will have a nice day and I hope my dad enjoys his first Christmas with Sheila. I just wish my mum could come just for the day as she loved Christmas but at least she be watching over me.
so over to you guys now what are your plans?

  • I'm always up stupidly early so presents happen when everyone else eventually gets up.

Traditionally breakfast is smoked salmon, scrambled eggs on croissants this is washed down with bucks fizz and or coffee depending on whether driving duties will be required.

A long walk with the dogs followed by dozing on the sofa while watching some Christmas movies.

We have Christmas lunch a tea time (I'm northern) which will consist of rump steak (medium), garlic mushrooms, caramelised onions, new potatoes and maybe a bit of salad, tiramisu for pudding.

After recovering a few hours which may involve another nap, we play boardgames and listen to music. A few drinks and snacks maybe consume over the duration of this activity.

  • Thanks Lucy, I hope you and your furry family have a good day too Slight smile

  • Since not living with my parents I’m absolutely happy to not celebrate Christmas. I will just have a Walk, tomorrow I’m gonna buy some food for the days when shops will be closed and that’s it. There is only one polish dish that I really miss. But I don’t miss crowd of guests, small talk on the table, sometimes also argues about politics, the obligation of greeting everyone, gifts and obligation to pretend I’m super happy when it’s just something absolutely popular that one could give anyone (example jewellery) and I have no idea what to do with it. I usually used to take breaks, just disappear in the middle of the “party”. Now I’m happy to have no party, just normal day like every other day.

  • I plan on something similar as I have three cats to look after so will enjoy that. I plan to go cycling as well. For me it is the 25th of the month, same as any other month. Hope you have a nice day with your cat.

  • My brother's going to stay at a B and B a few hundred yards from my home, from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day. We'll visit an old neighbour, for Christmas Dinner, and my current neighbour for dinner on Boxing Day.

I got my brother a set of Masterchef Kitchen Knives, as a Gift. He's a better cook than me.

  • Christmas this year is going to be a bit of a strange one. Thailand observes it as a holiday, but doesn't celebrate it to nearly the same extent as we do in the west. I have been tasked with running a quiz for the students about the holiday, and my colleagues are eagerly trying to get me into a santa costume on the day.

We also might be having a party on the 25th, but the details are yet to be confirmed. Either way, it'll be a holiday I won't be forgetting anytime soon. Not least of which due to it being a constant 20-25 degree warm sunny day every day which has massively messed with my sense of time ngl

  • You can expect me .... on here ..... if you fancy ANY form of non- festive chatter.  I seem to remember us doing that together a few years ago.

  • I won’t be having any visitors or visiting anyone or exchanging any presents so it’ll just be me and my cat having a quiet day. No point in making a special dinner for one.

  • Hi Rach91

Well I finish work at 5pm tomorrow (Monday) - thank goodness.

Christmas Eve helping parents with dinner preparation, other than that, generally just chilling out and resting as I've had a very hectic busy time recently, and just looking forward to 're-charging my batteries' shall we say.

Christmas Day, chilling out, opening presents (from family, friends and work colleagues), helping, cooking and eating dinner and then general chilling out until bed - we always light a 'memory' candle for loved ones who are no longer with us during Christmas Dinner.

Boxing Day I've got a video call with my brother and my niece and nephews - other than that not much else lol.

It's my Dad's 75th Birthday on the 29th and him and Mum are going to see Startlight Express in the evening.

Not going back to work until Monday 30th - so it's pretty chill all weekend as well lol.

You sound like you've got a lovely relaxing time with your friend and your dog - I'll also be spending some lovely time with my animals as well - including my cat (who might as well be a child lol).

Sending best wishes over to you.

    Mweekie xx

  • Living here in the U.K., I will be spending Christmas quietly and alone, as I don’t go in for all of the over-commercialism and drink-fuelled parties, which is not the point of Christmas anyway, as to me, being a traditional Catholic, it is the season of Christ’s Birth and nothing else - I will be either attending a traditional Mass in Latin here in the U.K. or connecting via webcam to my home parish in Ireland, connecting via Zoom and other related online platforms with family in Ireland, as travelling to Ireland at this time of year is virtually impossible, especially in the years since Covid, in my 24 years living in the U.K. - I’ve worked in supermarket retailing for 30 years and I’ve become used to not doing last minute travelling and not getting home for Christmas, except for one year, which was a total disaster

  • so over to you guys now what are your plans?

Masking like hell......to get through hell.  Not exactly Christmas cheer from me with this post......just honesty!

I hope that level of honesty is ok with those of you who actually enjoy this time of year, and it's obligations.

  • A quiet day, just the two of us, with a roast chicken dinner, Christmas pudding, and my favourite dark chocolate truffles to snack on.

  • There will just be the three of us and it will probably be like a fairly normal day, but with presents and a roast dinner of some kind.
